Helldivers 2 is an incredible game. Visuals are stunning, gameplay is great and varied, fighting bugs and bots feels completely different with huge equipment diversity (and there are “rumors” of a new faction coming), but both are satisfying and the game has a great sense of humor.

Live service elements are very generous with premium currency that can be earned by just playing the game and is used to buy (mostly) cosmetic armor (has passive perks and 3 classes, and for now there are combinations only available in store), but the prices are reasonable and not by standards of macrotransactions infested gaming of today.

Outside of that, premium currency can be used to unlock Warbonds that work like battlepasses with weapons, passive perks for the squad, armor sets and emotes... but they don't expire. You don't have to play 25 hours a day, 8 days a week to not miss anything. All other progression systems require resources earned in game, without any way to buy them directly or indirectly.

For some tiny criticisms. The game is still being worked on which is good as far as new contend goes (expected from a live service game), but also that not all bugs are squashed quite yet and I don't mean just those on bug infested planets.

And finally despite the issue being resolved by Sony walking back on their announcement I feel forced to leave the next paragraf as it was because it has to be remembered (+update).

Requiring PSN account after months of the game working without it WHILE selling the game in regions that sony doesn't allow you to create one without breaking TOS that they created is not acceptable.

Sony officially delisted the game (a few days ago?) from regions where there is no PSN. It's better than selling a game in regions where it was never ment to work, but still not great. Also makes you wonder if they won't try to push PSN again.

Very satisfying combat, multiple playable characters that differ greatly in gameplay, with the biggest complain at the time of writing being only 2 stages with 1 boss each.

Game would be decent if not for the bugs still in the game over 1,5 years after release.

I put a debuff on enemy that deals additional damage every time I deal dmg. I use a skill that is supposed to hit 3 times and proc the debuff 3 times. I deal dmg once, proc debuff once, and than debuff procs 2 times more but without the skill dmg. Just the debuff dmg applies after the first hit.

There is a relic that is supposed to deal dmg at the end of the turn multiple times. I have the same debuff as above that deals dmg as I deal dmg. I make sure that the enemy dies from dmg from both sources and end my turn. Relic dmg procs once, debuff dmg procs once, then I see the animation play 5 more times but both relic and debuff don't deal dmg again. I get hit by the enemy. It bugs out diffrently than the first case. I guess the debuff works as intended this time since i dealt dmg only once so it hit only once as well.

You liked the main game, you'll like this. More of the same with some small improvements.
