I downloaded the demo, and started downloading all the demos I could find: Half-Life 2, Portal: The First Slice, F.E.A.R., The Witcher, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic...I played these demos over and over for months until I saved up for my first gaming PC in late 2008. Then I went out and bought all of the games....and Crysis.
And yes...TW2 was my biggest gaming disappointment. It's not an exaggeration to say that they altered every aspect of TW:EE so that it's practically a sequel in name only. Even the appearance of the characters were changed for no good reason! Triss, Zoltan, Siegfried....who are these imposters?
It took me four tries over four years to get past the first part of the game and eventually accept it for what it is. I'm really hoping that TW3 is a much better showing...even if I know that it's still far more Interactive Story than TW:EE.
