Oh man, what to say about Hunt? If you read the description of the game--cowboys in the late 1800s fighting a demonic invasion of a Louisiana swamp--you might be tempted to think it's awful. However, the game is so much more than that. The eponymous Hunt is actually several different phases that a typical game will take you through: First, you are looking for clues as to where the boss is, all the while dodging mobs, sound traps, and other player characters. Then, you actually have to defeat the boss. After defeating the boss, the hunt switches--you need to defend yourself against other players while you wait for your reward to be ready, then you need to escape alive while you're being tracked down. All of the phases of gameplay flow seamlessly into each other, and it makes for an extremely engaging and entertaining experience.

While the visuals and the visual language used in Hunt are gorgeous, where the game really shines is in its sound design. Many of the world traps revolve around sound; spook some crows or stumble on a lame horse, and suddenly everyone for a mile knows right where you are. Each weapon has a distinctive sound, and a distinctive sound fall-off--except for the silent weapons such as the bow or suppressed pistols. Everything in the world has its own aural identity, from the rustling of bushes to the squeaking of shutters. Headphones are a must.

Easily the game I've enjoyed the most recently, especially as the PUBG server populations have dwindled, and it seems they're not quite done adding content to this one, yet.

Scratches the itch in a way that Sim City hasn't for a long, long time.
