"Warhammer 40,000: Darktide" by Fatshark is a wonderful and incredibly grimdark video game with an ingenious premise, peopled with exceptionally dutiful characters. It is the story of a middle age man, grieving his past misplaced faith and feeling guilty about his insubordination, who finds love in a totally unexpected place and has to deal with his deeply ingrained preconceptions about the binary gendered system. At first glance, while this story appears to be a tale of daemonic possession, potentially leading to an almost preordained conclusion of calamity, it turns out to be much bigger and much more different than that. In a somewhat parallel process, just as our heroine Zola turns out to be not what she seems, neither does our hero, a man of so much depth and a complete willingness and plan to sacrifice everything for his love.

I found this videogame through a friend who suggested the gameplay and setting would be one that I would enjoy. With a backdrop of Northern France during World War II, they were correct! The action starts right after a bombing and amidst the rubble, two American soldiers behind enemy lines find a satchel. The satchel’s contents set up what follows and the player is given a little mystery, a little romance, a little betrayal, and one heck of an emotional ride!

While a World War II game, a milsim, and a primarily (but not exclusively) tactical shooter is not normally something I would play, this one was done very well. The player experiences the Officer and Support’s emotional journey as a life or death situation forces them to choose life, to choose each other, and to adjust their friendship and their identities accordingly. And, that spot in the house in Sainte-Mère-Église? Hawt. Best of all, the strongpoints seem to be pushed equally by both the contents of the satchel and the emotional journey of the characters.

My only slightly negative or critical comment is to wonder what happened to the forest maps. I think they may have magically disappeared. But, even as a critical comment, isn't that a fun little tease? Rawr.

So, if you’re looking for a fun, slow game, give this one a chance. This WWII tactical shooter may be just the thing you’re looking for!

Not expensive has cute soundtrack and looks great

As a gentleman with fine taste in clicker games, I found this to be exceedingly satisfying to play!

The stories in this collection are excellent and hold your attention. Some found me wishing I cuold take the main character's place!

I Purchased this for my gf. I was “scared” at the thought of ... would she like it or hate me forever ... Holy crap, she practically threw me a ticker-tape parade .!! She loved it and, she loves it. Like other reviews on here, I played it with her and witnessed her smiling and then her eyes rolling back in her head.

Excellent for relief of all sorts... ;)
