Great game! Lots of fun!

Is the game great? YES!
Is it worth 40 dollars? YES!
Do you have to make a Sony account to play it? YES!

Did you notice that all of the negative reviews are from people with literally hundreds of hours in game?

Did you also notice that none of the negative reviews have anything bad to say about the gameplay or mechanics in any way shape or form?

I fail to see where making yet another online account makes an amazing game suddenly trash and deserving of a thumbs down.

This game is not good and I wanted to love it so much.
The music is phenomenal. If you want to buy this game to stand around and listen to the music, I think you might love it. The problem stems from actually trying to play it.

Nothing is explained, which is weird because it's a Sonic game, usually it's like 1 or 2 buttons tops. Instead, this is a complete redefinition of the Sonic gameplay style, using half a dozen buttons, with little-to-no instructions.

The game ranges from laughably easy to punishingly difficult. Imagine skating through 2/3rds of some random level effortlessly until suddenly you lose 10+ lives in a row. This isn't because it's challenging persay, instead you simply just can't navigate through an awkward section with the clumsy control method, or even worse, they aren't explaining to you what to do. You're just burning through lives via trial and error, which triggers it's own sort of stupid gambling system. They give you 10 lives and continues are bottomless, so if you lose your last life you are starting the entire level over. What this results in is a game where you may not want to start the next level because you only have 3 lives and you might need a dozen. It's probably better to kill yourself three times to refill your lives to 10, so you can have a fair chance at figuring out whatever unintuitive challenge is coming up next. It's stupid as hell.

Final thought is the achievements/challenge system. Instead of normal achievements like "beat world 1" or "complete the game" everything is tied to a randomly distributed challenge system. You may see an achievement for "get 100 rings" but unless you have been assigned the very specific challenge in game (doled out at a drip feed of no more than 3 at a time) you will not pop the achievement. What this results in is a game where you beat it completely, and have like a 10% achievement rate. I'm no hardcore achievement hunter but if I have beaten every single level in your game front to back, i have completed more than 10% of your game. The achievements should reflect that in some way.

All in all, this game is unique. But it is also trash. It is not just a bad Sonic game, it's a bad game. It's a BEAUTIFUL bad game with amazing music, bright colors, and fun characters. But it is still a really bad game.

Proceed with caution. I wanted to enjoy this game despite the bad reviews. It was impossible for me to do so. I regret signing up for this. If you see me continuing to play this I am not having fun, I am farming the achievements to lessen the black mark on my record.

This is a really great game and it's a shame to hear about it being delisted. Let me attempt to do it justice. This is an Arena shooter with the movement mechanics of Doom Eternal. You shoot and dash around quickly to a thumping EDM soundtrack while pulling off scored kills. There are dozens and dozens of finishers which will net you a larger score and more dropped supplies so the name of the game is to kill quickly and with style.

It took a few hours for things to fall into place but once it does this quickly becomes a pulse-pounding joy. Make no mistake about it this is a modern 'boomer shooter' before the term even existed. Many of the design elements in this game are only now just being explored by other throwback FPS games. It deserves a bigger place in the pantheon of our genre.

If you want to know what holds this game back here we go. Be prepared for zero explanation of the upgrade system. You will have to remember weird names and shapes of the various weapons, items, and power ups. Newly collected weapons often leave you guessing what their sub functions are. Power ups and abilities aren't really explained clearly so you'll have to experiment (re: waste) them frequently until you learn what they actually do. Also, there is a somewhat confusing fatality system that you use to score big and unlock upgrades. Even after 15 hours it is only slightly starting to make sense to me and i can barely remember a half a dozen of the massive list of options.

Regardless this game is excellent and should be preserved in your collection. I encourage you to pick this up even if now isn't the right time to play it. When you come back around to it i bet you will be plesantly surprised.

Addictive, tough as nails, platformer with expert 1-button combat that will challenge you. This is no button masher. If you love Super Meat Boy or N++ this is more robust in every way. Warning, if you are the kind of person who can't handle dying over and over and over while working out that perfect run this may not be the game for you.

Early Access Review
Yo, straight up, I USED TO PLAY INVERT, two years ago, badly.

Thanks to Aimlab I NO LONGER PLAY INVERT and I'm often the one carrying the team.

Thanks to Aimlab, my KD across the boards has risen dramatically (warm ups, 5 minutes, DO THEM).

Thanks to Aimlab I now understand how to accurately dial in my DPI and sensitivity settings every single time.

Thanks Aimlab

P.S. Why is this free? Why aren't you downloading this? Why aren't you training before every match? It's not going to make you worse.

When i was a kid, i saw a commercial on TV for Zero Tolerance on Sega Genesis. I wanted that game so much i dreamed of it every night, i thought it would be so bad ass... When i finally got it, the game sucked ass and i was crushed.

Thank you Project Warlock for giving me the Zero Tolerance game I always wanted. I can die now fulfilled.
