Rarely have I been as pleasantly surprised as by Dying Light. Here's a game with satisfying depth (dozens of hours at least, over 50 if you peek into some corners, hundreds for a completionist), real challenge (including plenty of nerve-wracking moments that are mostly optional, but tons of fun), and great mechanics. It also looks great.

The plot is overwrought but hey whatever.
