It's a new flatout game, basically, with some quality of life improvements over the official flatout series games.

The handling feels great, you get that sense of speed, obstacles in the road have the kind of weight youd expect for the most part with some jank happening every now and then, but that was present in the old flatouts too, so if you've played those, you know what you're in for.

Progression is decently fast from what ive seen so far, you dont feel like youre missing out on any cars as you'll most likely need to buy a new one every couple of events, but they're not too expensive so you don't bankrupt yourself.

I play on default difficulty and am by no means new to racing games, having played several growing up, including the flatout series (specifically flatout 2 and ultimate carnage) and it feels challenging enough, though on some events Frank is ridiculously overpowered to the point where you end up restarting a bunch just to get a perfect run to beat him. (for example; the semi truck time trial and the bowling minigame)

Graphics look nice, even featuring ray tracing and DLSS, running extremely well with a 3060Ti and i7-12700k even while livestreaming at 960p.

I've heard you cannot change the control layouts, not sure how true that is as I didn't feel the need to, the default controls are definitely playable and will suit most casual players.
Wheel support is also missing (for now), but it is coming later for those who want it.

The story and cutscenes are comically bad, they're fun to watch because of how bad they are though for someone who wants a bit more serious experience, this might be a dealbreaker.

The biggest issue I noticed so far in my 2-3 hours of playtime at the time of writing this was that the subtitles are not even close to what is being said by the characters with even single word dialogue being different between audio and subtitles.

To sum it up; it's the return of Flatout, a fun arcadey high speed smash & crash racing game in the form of a loving fan remake and I would definitely recommend it.

closet appears infront of the door of an already unlocked safehouse north of cherry windmill and traps you inside the room with no way to exit if you havent "unlocked" fast traveling yet which is another thing turned into a nuisance for no real reason
