This game is like a spiritual successor to Super Meat Boy in terms of both platforming and the challenge that it presents, and it makes good use of its own mechanics to present something unique to the formula that will leave you coming back for more to try to get better and better. Add in a cast of unique characters, a great, varying soundtrack, and a story based around an issue that many can relate to, and this is bound to be one of the best indie games of 2018.

It's okay. Not great, but okay. I liked it for what it is but it's a lot of the same that's been seen from the last few 3D Sonic games other than boom, which means it's so much of the same old that Sonic Team has been lambasted for since Unleashed.

The addition of the Avatar seems be the best addition here; Classic Sonic stages are what they are expected to be and modern Sonic stages end up being a "press X to win"-fest, whereas the Avatar stages tend to go a little further with the addition of customizable weapons and abilities, so it ends up being more than just a "lol coldsteel the headchog" moment in the end as they actually have a major part in the game.

Add some corny-yet-catchy rock music and voila, you have what most 3D sonic games have been over the past few years. Don't get me wrong, I kinda liked Forces; Liked it enough to finish the story at least, but it feels like at this point that Sonic Team isn't even trying to make their games stand out anymore other than with tropes and memes.

When you have a game like this, who needs real sports? ...or other video games, for that matter?

Rocket League is probably the best take on a virtual sport and one of the most unique and fun multiplayer games I've played in a very, very long time. If you're not playing this, regardless of what platform you play on, you're missing out.
