This game is a cool little trip through memory lane. It's worth $20 or so IMO. There's plenty to like here but ultimately the combat is just not good. So it ends up feeling like a long final fantasy 7 movie with some interactive parts that you just push through to get to the end. I would have given it a thumbs sideways if that was an option.

I needed this to prep for a flight lesson. Spent most of my 47 hours played so far just trying to get the game to install updates from somewhere that isn't steam...because for whatever reason Msft makes you download most of the game from some external source that serves files to you at dial-up speeds.

Early Access Review
I've never played a twin stick moba before this one but I played a lot of Dota and a lot of twin sticks. This just feels like a natural fusion of the two. Being that this game is as good as it is in early access, I can't wait to see the full release.

This game feels like someone finally made a proper next gen Castlevania-style game in 3 dimensions and it rocks. It's hard to explain but, the way the game just lets you die and doesn't have all these different guard rails to make things easy on you, it makes it feel like your successes matter more. This is honestly the most fun I've had playing a single player game in close to a decade. I've enjoyed it enough to where, I might finally be motivated to give Sekiro a fair shot.

The PC port is reasonably well done but there's definitely some things left to be desired too. The keybinds are just janky if you play mouse and keyboard. The camera is constantly auto-rotating in a way that doesn't feel natural on a mouse (though I've grown pretty used to it now and I don't notice it much anymore.) The game is capped at 60 fps and doesn't have any kind of upscaling or frame gen built in. There's some weird optimization issues in some parts of the game where it will drop down to 50-55 FPS even if your GPU is not anywhere near fully utilized.

The good news is, there's at least some decent mods out there to overcome some of these shortcomings. You have an aspect ratio adjustment mod, frame rate unlocker, upscaling/frame gen mods etc. You'll have to play in offline mode while using mods. Which really isn't that bad as I don't see a lot of value in the multiplayer features. And then there's the "perfect co-op" mod that lets you play a vastly improved co-op mode AND you can use the graphical mods while using it.

Honestly if you're considering trying your hand at a souls-like, this is probably the best place to start.

Lets me play Elden Ring online in 120 fps with no visible artifacts that I've seen so far. That makes this worth the price of admission alone.

It's a smash clone, on PC. I've never owned a compatible console since smash released. So it's awesome to have this style of game on PC, even if it might be a slightly inferior imitation. In any case, there's some novel characters and properties represented here that are interesting, like Agent Smith from the Matrix for example.

Two of my main gripes from when the game came out of beta have been fixed:
1) The game no longer swaps to my standby monitor constantly
2) The path to unlocking all the characters is much more straightforward now if you're willing to spend some money. You can spend $40-50 to "unlock the road" and get access to any character that was released prior to the current season. And then "the fighter road" mechanism gives you a reasonably fast way to continue to unlock every character as they're released each season. This might seem like a lot of money but, you're essentially paying the price of a full game to...get all the content in the game. So I'm happy with that.

It's more or less the same Tekken you've always loved and feels very next gen. Don't overthink it, it's just another Tekken game.

This game is a rogue-lite metroidvania that plays a lot like dead cells but with hades style progression. The combat mechanics are pretty solid and they do a good job of making the characters feel similar to their fighting game counterparts. You'll probably enjoy this a lot more if you're already a fan of the blazblue franchise. The graphics are pretty pleasing to look at even if they aren't super modern and/or complex.

15 hours in, I've already done 5 complete clears of the core gameplay loop. So I don't know if the replay value will really be there for me to play this for hundreds of hours and/or 100% the achievements. I'd say that if you're a fan of roguelite metroidvania style games and you can get this on sale for $10-20 or so, it's probably a solid purchase.

The multiplayer mode doesn't seem to have anyone queueing up for it when I've tried. But it says that it's still a work in progress so, who knows if that will change at some point.

Edit: I did the thing and got all the achievements. Took me about 130 hours over the course of two weeks. I'll probably still keep playing this game because I just love the mashup of the combat mechanics and roguelite design.

Ubisoft recently announced they were ending support and taking all of the servers offline for "The Crew." This game was advertised as having single player content. But it requires you to connect to their servers even if you are not playing online.

What does this have to do with this game? Well it means that all of their games moving forward are potentially just long term rentals that are not advertised as such. This is a very anti-consumer practice. And I cannot in good conscience recommend any games from this publisher when that has the potential to happen to any buyer. Ubisoft could patch these games to remove the online requirement. But they're choosing not to. So that makes their products a very poor value proposition in my opinion.
