Got kicked into the sky by shotgun recoil, kept shooting out of panic and died on the map border

You start small, you have nearly nothing on you, but things will change ... quickly.
With the first swing for coal or iron, your first drill and your first furnace, development and automation begins to settle in.
You'll construct, you'll research and you'll build up your own infrastructure of transport belts, electric poles and mines.
Before you even noticed how much time has passed, you will have drones flying from port to port transfering thousands of items per second to reach your goal of building your first rocket - escape this planet, so that you don't have to deal with these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying bugs anymore ... just to find yourself stranded on another planet with even more annoying lifeforms.

10/10 - would destroy other planets just to create my own space program again

Basically a more casual and accessible approach on the shooter / deathmatch genre back in the days, with classes and abilities instead of buying different equipment like in Counter Strike and also more creative maps and gamemodes.

You could say this is a pre-cursor of games like Overwatch and Valoran, as they a have a few similarities.

If you can find a server with enough players on it, this is still fun to play, even today.

Used to be "the" game in terms of what everyone used to play, even if they didn't like shooters all too much, because it had such an amazing map / mod maker community that there was just so many different game modes and maps to choose from, that all had their own charme to it.

In todays time, everyone is either playing CS:GO or there are actual games that continued the gamemodes seen in CS:S and some of them switched over to Garrys Mod as it has a lot more modding options.

So don't be surprised to see bot-filled servers with maybe 2-3 real players or just generally very empty servers as this game is OLD, but gold ;)

This is not Minecraft in 2D as some people may say.

Yes this game has blocks. Yes this game has building (creatively).
But there is so much more combat and fighting, gear upgrading, boss fighting and other stuff.
This is not your "chill and build" game. Expect a learning curve, which is decent but definitely not too hard. After all you can also decide how difficult you want your session to be.

Other than that, this game is best played with 2-3 people or more and offers a lot of playtime.
Very much recommending this.

This game used to be super fun with dozens of people creatively challenging each other on sandbox servers, but sadly those days are over and what is left consists mostly of RP servers, a handful of prop-hunt and half-decent TTT servers and hundreds of empty or very low population sandbox servers of which nearly none has any advanced addons allowed or has a very weird concept of what sandbox is supposed to be.

It's still my most favorite sandbox game I've ever played and probably will play, as no other game had so much freedom in what you can do than this.
