this game brings me joy

edit: after 25 hours in game and beating the final boss, i cant recommend the game to new players even for players who had WorldsAdrift.

for people who had played WA. well... it is WA but less same mechanic, same system, same graphics as the game was shutdown. systems that you would expect to be fixed such as the inventory to be improved cant be found it is still the same as WA.

for people new to this. you will hate the controls as you cannot rebind them. the dev team is working on it

for everyone. the game has plenty of immersion breaking bugs that forces you to start over (respawn) and lose the loot you gathered (sad day for all loot goblins) a lot of the items that WA players expect to be there such as improved engines (specifically jet engines) are a needle in a hay stack, endless amounts of food blue print are expected tho so youll never go hungry. (do you want some spicy tomato soup? here, i have 3 cupboards filled with its bp)

as for my take? as i said, it brought me joy, it filled the void that WA left when it got shutdown. but it did feel a little bit lacking although it is my fault for expecting more. I did hear that Bossa was working on it a few years back and i wont lie i was expecting them to finish it early as the game is already there just needed to change how it worked, no need to start from the ground up.. well i was not wrong. I see the same exact assets that was used WA just... different...

thanks Bossa for dusting off the assets of WA and releasing it again :v (seriously thank you) i didnt even know that people who owned WA was supposed to be given a discount i didnt even get that cause as soon as i recieved the email that the beta release is out i bought the game. pretended i was sick to leave work early and went home to play LOL.

The game loop is similar to Pworld but with a properly integrated storyline through quests and the game mechanic has a smidge of remnant 2 on upgrades, looting, and boss fights.

Few gripes with the game;

driving is somewhat janky because of the upgrade progression put on it, faster than walking yes but it's as fast as a horse at full gallop not what you would expect from an actual bike like in other games, i understand because they want to put on an upgrade progression on it but this could have been done a lot better, maybe satchel bags for storage and it gets bigger as you upgrade it?

Combat is not great, but not bad either, especially for melee, the guns? hmm not too sure but it feels off to me, maybe due to the deviants becoming bullet sponges at level 25+ even the low-tier deviants become bullet sponges comparable to mini-bosses at lvl 8-10.. this becomes more apparent with the fauna in the game, you'd expect to get more loot by killing higher level fauna but no you'd have to mag dump them 3 times before they die and get the same amount for a paltry sum of exp, i understand the exp but loot progression should be put on too not just the amount of bullet you have to put in them.

I understand most games collect data but why does it need root access? I understand Valorant does it for anti-cheat but why does this game need root access to store player data?

I also started having network issues where most of the games I play would disconnect me and after uninstalling this game all my games ran perfectly, no more disconnects maybe it's just a coincidence cause I couldn't find anything in glasswire that should have caused issues. I'm not pointing fingers but this is just too suspicious for me. I only have basic computer knowledge, so take it as you will with a spoonful of salt.

if I could give this game a neutral recommendation I would, alas there isn't.

the learning curve is a little bit steep as it involves a smidge of real world science unlike frostpunk, AOE, civ6 and stellaris. if you neglect your food production, oxygen production or your materials use, you will loose your colonist/dupes. but when you do get it? past the middle stage hump? it will suck you in. but i suggest you install some mods as this game pacing is rather slow. been playing this while working only after i have established food and oxygen sustainability. if you are getting this, also get the DLC, it adds a few more problems to solve and its rather fun.

regarding your pc spec; game play starts to a crawl when you reach end game as your CPU struggles to simulate every minute detail of thermal mass that is changing, every cell of gas, moving liquids in your pipes, the movement of dupes/colonist in the entire map your CPU will chug. the game does not care if you have the latest and greatest GPU in the market, all it cares is about your single core boost. when i say chug i mean chug from 200fps to 15-30fps

TLDR: math tickles your brain? you'll love this. but you need good single core boost cpu. 5ghz the better.

I like the game so far. I have not encountered any bugs, but had a few crashes not because of the game but because of AMD drivers or my OC being unstable.

can't compare it to cyberpunk cause that game is just ♥♥♥♥ in terms of story line (felt like it was slapped together in one day)

can't compare it to NMS cause like again paltry story line (a short story stretched into a game)

If you are like me who enjoys stories yes I absolutely recommend it. but if your hardware is on minimum specs and is both Nvidia and intel, do not get the game, It would be akin to playing a game in PowerPoint.

i like the game ngl, I know it is trying to be hyper-realistic with its graphics, but I think the Devs are missing the point as they kept focusing on the graphics aspect of the game and forgot to optimise the game. Not many people can afford high-end graphics cards, and most of us are still on the GTX1000 series of cards. tried so hard to make the game look really good that you forgot about the gameplay. fetch quest here fetch quest there. the tech tree is meh, weapons are meh, gameplay is meh. the only thing this game has going is the graphics and nothing else. and if you are like me who has GTX1000 series. do not get the game. it will just be a film grainy mess or over-saturated mess if you want. I bought the game during alpha and now I regret it. SO much wasted potential. Ru** has a better electricity game mechanic and this one is just barely trying to introduce it to the game.

UPDATE:
CPU-Ryzen 5 7600x
GPU-Rx7900xt
RAM- 32gb cl36 6000mhz 8x4

As you can see I am running on a better machine than last time I played on release (GTX1070)
and the issues I mentioned are still the same although the devs have shifted to releasing new content every week.

The game is still an un-optimised nightmare, bugs from the first day of release are still present (December 2021).
The wiring is still the same and they could not be bothered to add switches or relays after three years. The graphics is still the same tho not grainy as it was still an over saturated mess if you have native HDR. the lore has been significantly changed and new players can't tell what is going on, I had to say to them what it was about back then. looking forward to when they add Haast Eagle.

TDLR: The game still runs like sh---it after 3 years of development, some bugs from release are still present, has a weekly content update tho.

Has a great potential

Game-play is very similar to Project-Z but less of the realism, has a neo scavenger feel to it because of the items.

UI and sound needs a lot of polishing as it is very hard to follow. For example the volume controls is rather strange as it is not your typical slider but rather pre-set not really flexible. the trader is not easy to follow as it is all text based rather than being separated by types and icons are presented. i understand that it has to be text based as the sprites for ammunition and other items are extremely small and is bit type art.

The zombie audio is obnoxious sometimes as it is just there no volume changes no matter the distance and there is no direction to it. imagine a repeating audio loop of multiple zombies growling and grunting.

the game stutters a lot even with very high framerate you can tell the game is loading new areas of the map. regarding the map, road generation and building generation needs to be polished as even though we have vehicles in the game using them is pointless because of the strange way the road generation works.

The character animation needs to be fixed as well as it looks like the player model is leaning upwards (looking at the sky) when looking up the screen and it gets strange when you start walking too, you have to see it to know what im really talking about its small but could be fixed easily.

cant wait for more updates about the lore of the game.

As of now, no i don't recommend, visually the game is complete but on the story content it barely has one.

While nearly to the end of the main quest the story feels off, its like you were given half of an ice pop and when you are almost finish eating it you realise you were only given half of it. the visuals of the game are great ngl, some of the mechanics customisation of the weapons where okay and could have been definitely more specially on the visual side of the weapons. customisation where definitely lacking, not in the sense of body mods but more like on clothing. i would have loved it if we we're able to customise the characters face just like those crazy npc's that are part of the game but nope players cant have those.

I have no hope for the alleged multiplayer dlc of the or rather I don't want it. I want them to fix the content of this game.

I understood that transitioning from the style of witcher series was gonna hard but i did not expect such incompetence of releasing an 'unfinished' game. from this game I realised that CDPR on the witcher series was nothing but a stroke of luck on how they made it. This game is rather disappointing, kinda like a hot woman who starfish and only starfish in bed.
