Early Access Review
Path of Exile 2 has the bones to be amongst the greatest ARPGs of all time. Combat is fun and satisfying, partying up with friends is easy, the design and flow of the game beats out any other game I've played in this genre.

However, as of this time I am forced to leave a negative review. For a while I have grit my teeth through the numerous progression-locking bugs, random game crashes, PC freezes. None of these issues initially changed my feeling of "ur game good". The main issues I have currently is with the seemingly completely untested balancing of certain modifiers, the ascension system, and the problems with endgame.

Modifiers such as Volatile Plants, Temporal Bubble, and so on are an absolute nightmare to any melee-focused characters. Enemies are WAY too overtuned especially at higher levels. Besides that, I feel like I am fighting developer design choices more than the monsters themselves. There are currently WAY too many things that either kill you from completely offscreen, kill you after the room has been completely cleared, etc. Devs, as of writing this review I have clipped and saved nearly every single death on my main character and went back to watch what had killed me. In nearly every single clip, I can't even pinpoint the cause of my death. Whether that be because the ground is full of item drops that completely cover my screen, or going from full health/shield to 0 in the span of a single game tick, or even dying to some projectile that DOES NOT EXPIRE even after the monster is dead. I shouldn't have to wait 30 seconds to pickup loot because the elite I killed had spawned 15 purple orbs of death that don't just instantly kill me through my defences, but also beeline towards my character until my hitbox lines up with it and it explodes. It's not fun.

The ascension system could have been really good, but its borked by design. Disregarding the MAJOR progression locking bugs at launch (a few have been hotfixed now), Trials of Chaos (ToC) and Trials of Sekhemas (ToS) are both equally completely unfun to play. In ToC, some bosses have completely un-telegraphed one shot attacks, in arenas where you can't even dodge out of the way, which gets exponentially worse when you pickup modifiers that add more and more ground traps and random ICBM explosions and tethering balls that slow you to a crawl. It's not fun. ToS is even worse. The honour system is so horribly inconsistent I promise it will make you rage quit, ESPECIALLY as a melee character. Elemental afflictions like burning, poison, and bleeding will rip through your honour and instantly end the trial. Bosses with big aoe hits in tiny arenas will rip through your honour and instantly end the trial. In party play, I've recorded several times where my honour just decreases randomly, in an empty room with no enemies or traps, eventually dropping to zero and instantly ending the trial. It's not fun.

Now for the endgame. The main endgame appeal is Maps, instanced areas that are way too big and give way too little loot at the lower tiers. Map retention is very annoying early on where sometimes you won't get any maps of the same tier, if you even get any at all. Without maps, you can't play endgame content, meaning you can't progress your character at all. This all culminates into the single most unfun endgame experience I've had in a long time. For example, say I load into a super juiced Map, with plenty of league mechanics built in like Breach and Delirium. I progress through this Map until I find a breach, which spawn a lot of enemies and thus an opportunity for a lot of loot. I quickly clear the breach and my screen is littered with loot drops, drops I can't pick up because if I even dare to stop moving to collect an item, I run the risk of dying to a random offscreen enemy projectile. Now imagine the frustration as I go from full health to zero in a single rendered frame, to an enemy I can't even see, and losing ALL of the loot that dropped on the ground. I lose both my juicer Map which already took me time and materials to acquire, and all of the items I would have gained from said Map. This has wasted hours and hours of my time. It's not fun.

I've said my piece and I plan on updating this review as updates get pushed out after the team at GGG comes back from holiday break. I would recommend waiting through Early Access updates and just playing the game when it goes F2P eventually. As the great Kevin O'Leary once said: "For these reasons, I'm out".

Completely broken, dead on arrival. Refund immediately and avoid purchasing at all costs.

Issues:
Constant crashing even in title screen
Can't join through steam
Hosting sessions crashes the game
Clicking on anything runs the risk of the game crashing
ZERO dedicated servers
Server connect screen shows no available sessions
Menu audio made me go deaf (can't adjust until after you make a profile and select which game)
Graphics are the same as they were in 2000 except now with shadows!!!
Broken mouse DPI
Awful render time for a game that is as old as my firstborn son

Given that they fix all these issues, it's still just a re-released BF1 and BF2 with nothing added and nothing changed.

Dark Souls with guns, but even better because it works on PC. Although Remnant II is amazing, I highly recommend picking up the first game which in my opinion is even better.

With the announcement of the DLC I repurchased the game on steam and ported over my offline save just to grab the few items I was missing (and trying to levelcap). In total I've clocked in about 500 hours into Elden Ring and I gotta say it's gotta be one of the greatest games ever created. From design to combat, they nail everything on the head and the level of detail they put into the open world is astonishing. Besides a couple technical gripes I still have, such as still no widescreen support and the 60fps cap (in 2024, really?), nothing mods can't fix (MODDERS BE BLESSED), this is likely the closest thing to a perfect game you will ever find.

My earlier negative review was for the awful performance issues that plagued the game, even for someone like me with a NASA computer, but most if not all these issues have been addressed and I'm now able to enjoy the game to its fullest.

Been an avid gamer my entire life and this is the first and ONLY game thus far that has given me the "friday night minecraft with the boys" feeling that I used to get back in 2011.

Even at full price this game is VERY much worth it.
