Okay lets start with the things I like about this game. The graphics and world building are wonderful (I have been play with them set to ultra). The water is beautiful along with the sunsets and sky. I'm sure if this is intentional or not but you ability to gauge distance also seems to be affected by where the sun is at as well. The rain could be a little more in depth but it works and very much gets the point across whit the fog and lighting changes that come with it. It becomes difficult to see under water and you cant even see to the end of your own small island. I have encounter a few times where the rain shows up under the water a few feet but those have been few and far between. The vegetation and rocks have had a lot of work put into them as well and are very life like. Even if you get a tree that spawns about the ground and the roots are not in the ground.

The ship wrecks in the shallows are nice and neat to find but you quickly learn where all the lockers and spots are in them for the loot.. How ever finding the right items in a ship wreck can be a life saver. This is where you find the good world loot compass, duct tape, buckets, flash light, lanterns and high quality tools. Even if they have been under water long enough for most to the ship to rust away. I would love to see some truly unique game mechanic added like tides that would make the world feel a little more complete. CON: This however in the current build without a climb function on ledges would make it easy to get trapped in some of the ships. Be sure to bring a trunk to get yourself out when going into the ships that have washed up on the shore of your island.

The AI that runs the tiger sharks is very nice as well they will come in and check you out at first then bump you around with their nose and finally they will grab you and try and drag you out to the deeper water. A good whack with the machete or ax will usually send them fleeing from you. For some reason the spear seems to have little or no effect on the sharks. I have yet to been brave enough to jump into the deep water around buoys to try my luck with a sailfish or great white. Just an fyi the sailfish will aggressively push your raft out of there territory. And will easily cause you to lose your direction while out at sea. CON: The AI that runs the crabs, well I don't think there is one. They mindlessly roam about and takes no effort at all to run about stabbing them with a knife or spear. There does seem to be more of them out at night though. I hope that more animal life is to fallow. Sea birds, mussels, oysters, snakes, and maybe turtles.

I do enjoy the fresh approach the the crafting system is it can be a little difficult at first. Also there are not a whole lot of items to build right now. The premiss of it is fairly simple though, in that you have to bring all the items you want to build something out of together and then build it right there on the ground. This is lovely for the immersion into the game world of being stuck on this small island and trying to survive. However it still has a long way to go. 1: I can not for any reason figure out why you need a hammer to build something that is made out of tied together sticks. Aka your house and raft. A lot of the items that you can make still have bugs in them. It is a solid functioning system for alpha and proves that the system does work. CONS to fallow; When you get you campfire up to the point that you have a spit on it if your fire goes out while something is cooking you can no longer remove the item and it becomes useless. It can be difficult to cook on the first fire you build. having to hold items in the fire. When and if you build a house/shelter you can not currently put your bed in it. And if you think that's okay ill just use it to store my items, well if you build one that is bigger than a one by one when you leave your island and come back all them items fall to the ground and many of them will get stuck between the two foundations. I have not yet found a way to retrieve them. Also all the plant life excluding the palm tress re-spawn as well. And the rafts (Google it you will find more than you need to know).

Overall: This is a wonderful functional Alaph release of the game. But if you are looking a purchasing this now please remember that it is just that an Alaph. There will be bugs there will be glitches and some things will not work right. There will be heartache when something happens but that is the point to having an Alaph to get these thing worked out for the full release of the game. On to the 14.99 price point. If you are excited about this kind of game mechanics and want to help support the developers in building a truly wonderful and unique game then I would say most definitely. If your someone who wants a full game then I would say wait till the beta or later.
