In the past few years, this game has degraded. While the devs have paid little care to the game, and seem to be just about done with updates (with the success of the next one, teased over a year ago, determining whether the game will be getting any more updates), the game is still largely playable.

The new matchmaking system is unweildly and lackluster, not letting users see into servers before they join them and not allowing ad-doc connections, and the community servers have taken a huge hit from years ago and aren't solid or popular replacements.

Still, the mechanics are largely enjoyable, and the graphics have aged better than most thanks to the art style.

The game's players are why I can't recommend this game anymore. Bigotry, sexism, racism, and general toxicity have spread over time in the TF2 community. Every game has some unsavory elements, but this is the only game I've ever played where I was *forced* out of the community by sexist harassment. It's always been present, since I picked the game up in 2010, but what was once an occasional event became weekly, then bi-weekly, then every dozen games, then finally every single game in a night. That's how bad the community has ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I recommend saving your time and picking up anything else.
