Bought this for 80% off, at 3€.

The big amount of negative reviews comes from the fact that despite this being a groundhog day type game, you need to basically talk to almost everybody every loop about everything if you have no lead where to go. You can also not fast forward any text.

If the developer just implements a fast forward button that skips all previously seen text if you hold down a button, it'd remove 30% of negative reviews.

That being said, the game has a unique narrative and it's thrilling to find new leads for different endings.

Detective games are often very railroady. One answer and one way to get there. You don't need to think, deduce, make decisions.

This game is different! You need to manage your time by not investigating every nook and cranny but instead prioritise. Follow your hunches. "Maybe someone threw something into the bushes?!". You need to play favors, not everyone will answer every question if you arrest their relative.

And then there's... Linda. <3.

Fun Short Game. Check out Screenshots of the game for a small ARG as a flavour

I got this through the Humble Bundle Indie Bundle.

It's an okay game but it's not great. The big plusses are the atmosphere and especially the characters. But the Metroidvania aspect is lacking. The game features upgrades to Health, Attack and Stamina through Gel that you earn from enemies and not from exploration per se. There's also a bunch of post-game-bosses that got added post-release strewn into the normal map which always means you can't be sure if it's skill or level that you're lacking to defeat a certain boss or if it's just not meant to be. The exploration is a slog, as it always tethers you back to a homebase after you find each of the McGuffins which is just a lot of walking already explored areas. The combat is also not that well, all enemies are meat shields with too much HP and there's no real finesse in it. Getting any kind of upgrade also doesn't feel impactful at all.

If this was an entirely story based game, it'd be great. As a Metroidvania it's meh.

Got this through the Metroidvania Humble Bundle

I quite enjoyed my experience. The combat isn't as indepth as I feel this game deserves but the art is very pretty. I basically played this game mostly for the themeing and it was great at that.

Some people criticised this as a "linear 4h experience" and while it's kind of linear in terms of Metroidvanias, it's beyond 4h. Although maybe I'm just bad and to be fair, I 100% this game.

Dave The Diver is a wild game.

I love fishing games and also these kind of "number go up" games in terms of upgrading your stuff. Dave The Diver was surely enjoyable but it was a bit much at times. It throws 50 different mechanics and game mods in. There's a rhythm game in this. A tamagochi. You manage a subbranch. You need to do cooking minigames and stuff. Plus, it drags on a bit too much, but that's maybe because I 100% it. Even though the dragging started before the main story completed.

Overall, I recommend it but don't try to go for everything.

What I really love about Dave The Diver though is Dave. He's great. He's, at least from my point of view, the first positive fat gaming protagonist. Not once did his weight come up. He's just naturally friendshaped and that does not impair his ability at all.

Very fun logic game based on Minesweeper. It's never frustrating. Everything is in Logic, you never have to guess. 2 bucks is a very good price. Took me 2h to beat.

Nice crossover between Picross/Nonogram and Minesweeper. It seems like sometimes there is no logical solution but sometimes it just took me 20 minutes to figure out the logic behind it. Completed it fully in about 2,5h but I'm pretty proficient with both genres. Definitely worth the 3-4 bucks and has easy achievements that don't punish you for mistakes.

I've only bought & started playing it after the 1.1 Patch which fixes a lot of control issues and some bugs.

This review, however, is still negative because I believe the general game flow is bad.
For one, the game doesn't tell you about ALL the neccessary repairs in advance so you gotta fly back to your ship multiple times. You can't just disassemble everything and then repair it at once, no, you gotta go back multiple times :(

Second, there's no skills, as far as I can tell. Things such as "Magnetic homing in on your repair" or "more bolts at the same time" or other stuff. There's no real sense of progression.

It's either to complicated or too easy. In the early levels you just gotta remove two screws, remove a thing, repair it, re-assemble. In later levels you gotta look at schematics and re-wire electronics. It's a wild jump, especially in the tutorials. It'd be great if you'd have to diagnose what was wrong first instead of the game straight up telling you.

I hope this game will see more improvments because I do think it has potential.

This is just a very badly made game. Assets, sounds and music are just smashed together. The music is just looped on repeat, there is no game variety, there is no story coherency, it's just a quickly made game. Definitely not worth 25€, nevertheless 5€.
