I did play the alpha back when it came out and I enjoyed it, it did have some serious flaws but the game felt alive and varied.
My issue with this current version isn't really the gear or the lack of leveling etc. but rather the fact that the game world seems so much emptier and barren than it used to, the power of mobs being seemingly randomized (an example would be that a chicken with 1 star can solo you at the start of the game but a 2 star crab can't) and the avalanche of issues in map generation like campfires spawning at the bottom of the ocean and 5 star mob packs spawning on top of NPCs essential to your progression.

It took me a few minutes to get used to the (not very but still noticable) generic feeling of the game engine, but as soon as I got past that, I was drowned in a deep feeling of nostalgia both by the music and gameplay.

As a person that has fully completed Castlevania: SotN a double digit amount of times sporadically from the age of 7 or so up until the present day, I can say with all of my heart that I love this game, much more than I thought I would!

I wish I could hit the recommend button more than once!

Also note that there are a few minor bugs in the game like some passives messing up in certain situations et cetera, it's not perfect, these are bugs I'm confident will get fixed very soon.

Well worth the cost, play this instead of the standard version.
You'll have to play the game from the start several times if you want to see everything since there's so many smaller details and functions that are easy to miss and aren't needed to reach an ending.

Damn good, the way Diablo 3 should have gone!

Edit: this is not completely true anymore because of all the D3 patches and reworks, I enjoy both just as much nowadays.
