Early Access Review
The game needs some work but it has potential. It needs a bit of time to work out the unfinished tech trees, the pacing/balance, and minor bugs such as with setting up advertising. I wish you weren't railroaded to the same few hard coded occurrences and doing the tutorial intro every playthrough. I have faith in the team from other games they've put out. Been excited for this title since the demo.

My initial opinion of the game is that it is fun. I'm a longtime fan of the games. I do wish a few things were different. This arbitrary superboss shield level that unlocks a combo breaker attack really deviates from the original combat formula. I like having a variety of weapons and tactics and look forward to unlocking more depth in the game. At times even if you dodge an enemy they will 360 homing attack you. I wish there were less unskippable cutscene lines and I find it difficult to get invested in the mysterious protagonist with super magic eagle eye vision. Can't wait to see what more the game has in store as I get to more features.

Game is honestly really fun. I wish there was a much wider variety of which characters in the story you could recruit to form your party.

The gameplay would benefit if there were better quality of life autosaves beyond whenever you happen to walk near a boss, like maybe checkpoints whenever you complete a quest as is typical.

Cutscene triggers feel a little too sensitive when you are going near but not into an area. I just want to loot the beehive, not cross the bridge.

The environment could use a little more clarity on when someone is in a zone of silence or that could be hit by an environmental hazard. Maybe tactical view fixes this but I'm not sure.

Besides some minor frustrations you can work around its an immersive and enjoyable game.

Overpriced DLCs to unlock playing certain countries to the fullest that weren't broken on release.

The diplomatic play predictions are horribly inaccurate.

Frontlines/naval invasions are not compatible. You have to land on one end of the country or get teleported because the landing army cannot maintain both fronts.

Subjects are now essentially unmanageable if not a sovereign empire.

Diplomatic play burn time is often way too short to deploy troops to fight the war.

Fun game. Good movement and combat styles. Great base building. Better with friends.

I wish there was a bit more depth to the servant system and how the control area of your base influenced the nearby roads.

I also find the boss progression to be tedious, especially when they are laden with invulnerable and untargetable phases. It isn't something you can grind through until you unlock the next set of weapon and armor like a game of 2048, but instead have to sacrifice your build of chosen spells for the most meta enchantments you have, take all potions imaginable, and hope you can sneak in enough damage while the boss fight activates to avoid the most awful phases wiping you out.

This dlc is broken and clearly not playtested properly. Absolute dogwater even by pdx dlc standards. Why give the player the illusion of choice if you're going to railroad them and it doesn't even make sense?

This game has been pretty disappointing as much as I've tried to work around it and try different things being a huge fan of the franchise. Unfinished and unpolished. It lacks a lot of expected depth and feels extremely repetitive. Prepare to savescum constantly to avoid being gameruined by horrible ai decisions during wars.

The updates in terms of developing the game have really slowed down. Banners were a cool addition though.

Army behavior is awful, bailing on a front to drag 2k troops to the other side of the map. They can hardly defend newly taken lands in many areas of the map. Constant revolts.

Mercenaries need work still.

The questlines are unfinished/nonexistent. The conspiracy quests feel more like a chore to avoid the scripted dogpile war ai kingdoms are unequipped to handle. Just hold the quest until its going to time out to have a fun game. The main story is far from worth it and pledging the banner gives seemingly no benefit.

There is a clear meta in terms of army comp and what skills to specialize in. Your character choice and skill points too. A lot of promised features are still lacking like banditry. Certain kingdoms tend to steamroll every game ie khuzaits with their insane speed and quality troops.

The game hits a ceiling way too early at clan tier 6. Policies and kingdom decisions are wack. Seems to be either 0 or 100 support for certain things and you have to cheese through the good decisions early and pray they dont vote for stupid stuff later on. Peace deals for a minor faction you crush when 3 people declare war on your kingdom constantly starting at 5k paid to them when you are winning just makes no sense. Prepare to peace out for 1k when a tick away from taking back a castle to connect your lands. I still feel like I'm waiting for the game to become more playable.
