Takes awhile to get going but delivers on the promise of a immersive WW2 RPG by the time you get to North Africa. Yes the tutorial can take around 3 hours to do (actually it's the training camp that takes 3 hours, by the third "field problem" I think the game starts to hit its stride) If you really hate the kind of jarring tutorial video you can skip them, I think the systems are not that hard to understand for genre veteran and you will probably get most of the nuance just following along the tooltip.

While some of the scripting is kind of clunky, I think content and immersion-wise it's well done. For example, in the tank course, if you just let the computer use the default path finding, you'll immediately be "destroyed" by the referee because you crest a hill. Or every time you path through the open you'll get "shot" by a sniper. That really hammers in the training camp experience and of course it's a lesson in game mechanic as well.

While I don't have the chance to replay some parts to confirm how different things can turn out to be yet, at least in the first playthrough your choices seems very substiantial (of course it can just be smart script writing...and nothing matters in the end, common for RPG, but still, at least it FEELS like things can turn out different if I choose differently).

I also like that the price is reasonable even though the dev knows this is going to be a product with niche audience.

Cool premise, and with Arcen Games track record, Heart of the Machine is shaping up to be even more interesting. I am very happy with how fast the dev is adding more content

The infantry combat overhaul has been controversial. If you are a new player looking to buy, then it definitely doesn't worth the "Mostly Negative" rating, which on Steam really only is reserved for truly broken game or anti-consumer practice, which the ICO update is not.

Great DLC, really something different this time. Typical UoC scenario will have you either crack open or flank a largely static opponent. In Moscow 41, the German still have great offensive potential and they will launch fierce attack into your line instead of localized counter attack at your exposed unit. Expect to lose a lot more units than you are used to. On the flip side, you have massive budget and often given huge pile of free reinforcement to build and reconstitute your forces in each scenario. Though careful unit husbandry is still key, you'll need fully decked out elite unit eventually in the campaign.

Adaption of the board game, very good production value, good AI, easy to learn and enjoy.

Best writing in a video game. Easily unseats Planescape. Really funny and just plain great writing. Innovative skill system and great art and voice direction.

Eugen's best SP effort yet. Though the tactical AI is simply too predictable for someone who played since Wargame, however it'll provide new comer plenty of challenge.

MP is also quite good with pacing closer to Wargame. Actually I'd say it's basically Wargame without helicopter and ATGM and less need for recon. I quite enjoyed it.
