I traveled out to Madison Square Garden in '87 to see them. Definitely a crazy experience to say the least. Although Alvin and Theodore were clearly strung out on God knows what, they still managed to put on a kick-ass show. After performing "Heaven is a Place on Earth," Alvin suddenly jumped into the front row and started swinging a microphone stand at a guy, followed by a few punches to the face, knocking the guy out. I still don't know what that was for. Later on, Alvin and Theodore poured lighter fluid all over the stage floor and lit it up. Simon looked confused and very weary of the situation. Alvin then intentionally lit the back of his shirt on fire and continued to perform. So yeah, definitely one of the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy bands of all time, but at the same time, also one of the most legendary.

This might be getting a bit into conspiracy territory but I don’t buy Alvin’s death being a suicide. There’s a lot of things that the papers either downplayed or didn’t mention; signs of struggle in the room, the fact that Simon’s alibi was later proven false, the unexplained marks on his arms, his messy divorce, Dave’s disappearance for several months immediately after (not even attending the funeral), and the fact that Theodore looked more scared than sad in the interviews and never took off his sunglasses, it all points to something darker happening.
