This Game Is Garbage
Playing with an Xbox Controller with a Manual. Guide says downshift is B & Shift-Up is X, but when I press the button I can't change gears from 2 -> R.

So now I'm stuck. LOL

Absolutely unplayable trash right now.
I've tried every esoteric schizo post I've seen online to try to get past the black screen. Finally managed to after 100 of attempts only to get stuck in an infinite loop of "reconnecting to servers".

Finally, I get past that point and I get stuck on the press any button to connect and it freezes.

I'm done trying to connect. I've spent over 3 hours.

You would think that the devs would AT LEAST let us go to a main menu and then try to connect to their ♥♥♥♥ servers or even our ship...

Read the original novel on Qidian International (Webnovel). Love the game...but it's unfinished.
I just hope it's finished one day...

The Single Player is a buggy piece of trash.
The only thing that actually works right is the cash shop....

The worst bug I keep encountering is lights coming through walls....this isn't that bad until you are on the Alone level and it's literally blinding you with RGB colors to the point you can't see ♥♥♥♥ to play the damn game.

Do not buy this game - wait to pick it up for <$20

--------
Overall
--------
7/10 Mediocre at best
My advice is to pick up the game in a sale for around $20.

-----------
Key Points
-----------
1.) Stuttering - I didn't really have a big problem with this 5950x & 3080TI @ 1080p. There were the seldom times that it did happen to me, but I quickly turned off the vsync in the .ini file. After doing this the problems went away.

2.) Story - Honestly feels pretty lackluster. The characters don't feel very fleshed out, and I don't care enough about them. This was the worst part for me, because Dead Space's story had depth. This was even more unsettling by hearing the unfortunate ends from the audio logs you found on the Ishimura.
The Callisto Protocol's felt like - "oh noes im surrounded by zombies oh goodness - *dies noise*".

3.) Combat - The combat is pretty jank seems like the best thing to do is to always be strafing. This results in combat being a cake walk.

4.) Visuals - This felt like what most of the time went into for the game. The environments are beautiful.

5.) Horror - The game doesn't feel like it has a handle on the horror trope similar to the way Dead Space 1 did.
In Dead Space 1, I felt uneasy the entire time. Maybe it's just being used to the type of horror that Glen Schofield loves, but Callisto Protocol did not feel scary at all. The only thing that Callisto Protocol uses is jump scares.

6.) Enemy Type - Honestly was disappointed in the lack of enemy design. All of them felt like Zombie Monster #1-3. The mutating mechanic felt like they substituted a wider range of enemy design. There is one "mini-boss enemy" that was copy and pasted into a couple of fights. The last boss fight felt more like a resident evil boss than a Dead Space boss - this was a huge let down for me.

---------------------
Counter complaints
---------------------
>There is no ending to Callisto Protocol.
Glen Schofield mentioned in an interview that his favorite type of horror is the story where the main hero doesn't get away. I will admit that the entire ending felt like a "HEY GUYS REMEMBER DEAD SPACE".

>The game feels like a straight line and I can't explore
This one I don't get, because the Dead Space games were designed the say way. You were funneled in a general direction with a couple of option side stops you could visit. I can understand if you never played one of Glen's past games that you would here someone say this and adopt their opinion. Nor can I find any claim that this game was to be an open world game.

------
TLDR
------
The game is mediocre at best. It fails to live up to the horror from Dead Space 1 or even emulate the mix between action-horror that was Dead Space 2. It seems like a better attempt at Dead Space 3 than Dead Space 3, but this is disappointing for a fan of the original Dead Space. My advice is to pick up the game on a sale for $20.

I'm sadden by how lackluster Callistro Protocol was - I expect nothing from the current "gaming industry". I certainly wasn't expect another Dead Space 1 masterpiece, but at least a Dead Space 2 in terms of quality.

Warning: cannot play past 60fps due to animation locked to frame rate.

I’m glad a fatal frame is finally on steam - it's one of my favorite series.
