Tucked away in the rural areas of the English countryside, there was a forest. An old, abandoned area with a particularly uninviting atmosphere. From the outside, the forest surrounded itself in a thick fog, obstructing any good view inside. The towering trees loomed over, their dense branches and leaves engulfing much natural light. Lots of animals, particularly cats, were seen drifting inside, and then back out a few hours later. The local populace told folk tales of this forest; fables to scare the village children. For those who entered the forest, were never seen again.

"Nothing good comes from that place; it's cursed, I tell you!"

"Poor Maria's son wandered off into that forest. It's been 5 years and still no sign of him."

"We should burn the whole place down and be done with it."

However, for the curious and perhaps foolish individuals who dared enter, maybe there was something to find lurking inside. And one day, someone did find something.� 

He trudged his way over to the forest gate and, without looking back, started walking inside. One foot in front of the other, over and over. The interior didn't look any different than most other forests, besides the occasional cat passing by. They sometimes stopped to look at him, but they never stayed for long. He didn't feel any sense of danger, but an overwhelming sense of melancholic solitude. It was peaceful, but still very, very cold. After a short while, he found a gigantic stone structure, something that he likened to a temple of sorts. The moss had infected and spread all over; its lush, vibrant green provided a sense of ancient history. Despite their apparent age, the stone walls had barely a scratch on them. While not perfect, it seemed that whatever this place was hadn't changed much from when it was last deserted. Atop the spire of this temple, there was what seemed to be a symbol. He couldn't make it out and continued through the forest.

After what seemed like hours, he came to a sudden stop. In front of him stood a mansion. The trees had opened up and provided a nice, open environment for the area. The grey skies had dissipated, and he could finally see the luminous light that shone down from above. This Victorian-style mansion also looked to be abandoned but was still in great condition. Since he had been walking for a while, he decided to stop and explore. He knocked on the door.

No answer.

He tried again.

Still no answer.

He sighed and then started twisting the door handle. Slowly but surely, the door creaked open, revealing a wonderfully decorated home. It exuded that dollhouse feel, homely but desolate. The wallpaper lining the wooden walls was of a complex pattern, with beige and brown as the primary colours. Paintings of mysterious figures were lined up perfectly, their faces stuck in a different time. The main foyer had stairs that led up to what seemed to be three floors. There was a chandelier overlooking this space, but the individual candles had not been lit. While it wasn't particularly bright inside, it wasn't particularly dark either. To him, this place had a sense of juxtaposition. The atmosphere was inviting and cosy, but something wasn't quite right. There was a cold chill no matter where he went. He decided to look around and explored some of the rooms: an office area, a kitchen, an artist's studio, and multiple bedrooms, but there didn't seem to be another living soul in sight. The number of rooms in this mansion never seemed to end.� 

When he came back down to the entrance from the second floor, he noticed a small white cat peering at him from the end of the hallway. The cat's ears had a red, diamond tip to them, and it seemed to be smiling. All he could do was watch as it strolled on over, appearing to be unphased by his presence. When the cat got closer, he noticed something strange, it appeared to be translucent, and he could see right through it. The cat rubbed itself across his leg, and then suddenly he could hear something he couldn't before. In the distance, he could pick up the soft sounds of a faint piano, a beautiful composition being performed. He tried to stroke the cat's fur, but his hand passed right through. There was a word for this type of phenomenon: it had to be a ghost of some variety. This ghostly apparition then started walking back from where it came, but stopped and looked back. Meowing to him, as if gesturing to follow.� 

And follow, he did.

This cat led him through the winding halls of the mansion, the melody and chords of the piano getting increasingly louder with each step. They had found themselves in front of an unsuspecting door, a room that he had not yet explored. The cat looked up at him, softly meowed, and phased through the door itself. It's evanescent form leaving no trace of having been there. He knew what he had to do, and with a deep breath, he opened the door to this room. Inside, the cat had relaxed itself and was lying down atop a grand piano. This was where the music had been coming from.

Sitting on the piano stool was a ghost girl. She had long, blonde hair and was wearing a red dress with white frills at the bottom. She kept on playing for a little while longer, not even acknowledging his presence. He just stood there and watched, silently listening. After her concert was over, she turned around. She had solid yellow eyes and was wearing a bow tie with some sort of jewel in the middle. They looked at each other, and she started smiling.
