Great game, the best city builder released in several years by far, but the publisher really has an way to ruin good things, down below is what I dislike about the release, not the game itself or anything the developers are themselves to blame.
- Updated terms of service years after release committing to data collection and obligating you to agree to it, otherwise the game is not playable.
- Paradox’s way of milking the game (and any that they publish for that matter) with thousands of dollars in DLC.
- The Paradox Launcher.
- Paradox.

Was good on launch, as time progressed it got worse to the point of being an grindy messy bloated micro-transaction filled piece of ♥♥♥♥, the new enemies suck, the community went downhill, it's so bad it nears p2w with some weapons being paid only, ♥♥♥♥ this game.

Great alone, even better with friends. Microphone is required but if you can buy this game you can have an headset, right?

Dev has put a lot of love into this, and it shows, I hope he continues to nurture the game in the future, this game has great potential. There are a few points to keep in mind, the game in it's current state can't be considered anything but BETA, there are tons of bugs and lack of polish, especially the animations, but that doesn't subtract from the fun you can have. Definitely an good purchase!

This is an amazing remake of an amazing game but I'll voice some issues that made it less enjoyable for me, some of them are directly tied to each other but still they make for an less enjoyable experience, when I got to XEN I was thankful to never have an HECU grunt in my cross-hair ever again, why you may ask, well let me explain, this remake implemented flinching and recoil, iI don't mind the recoil on the MP5 but oh man the flinching, it never stops, it's like Gordon is having a seizure while his suit absorbs all those bullets, it is too excessive and NEEDS to be tuned down, it makes aiming the MP5 impossible and in XEN being hit throws your Gluon Gun beam into another dimension, and the overall experience is akin to an multidimensional nuclear light show, with your aim spasming all over the place, now continuing with the HECU problem, in the original game they were more fun to fight against, with realistic accuracy and an less oppressive AI, they would only fire standing still and would not paint any cover you take with grenades so quickly that you'd be in an pocket minefield, there are 3 problems with the HGRUNT AI; They negate cover too quickly and when in a group more than one of them throws 'nades to deny cover, that's not optimal behavior. They reengage too quickly after coming out of cover, this exacerbates the flinching problem mentioned earlier, you come out of cover only to have another seizure and have your counter fire denied, you'll kill one or two HECUs but in the later areas specially on Surface Tension, it is an chore using the revolver as an pocket sniper because anything ranged is rendered useless due to excessive flinching. The third and final problem with HECU grunts is their aim accuracy, seriously what is up with that, I did some testing, their aim has an spray that is smaller than the player's, combining that to the fact they can now move and shoot, you have the most deadly enemy in the game by an large margin, it's easier to kill Nihilanth than a squad of 6 Hecus, and I am not joking about that.
Now that that's out of the way let's talk about chapters, as far as your time IN Black Mesa goes, it's an awesome experience with a few rough edges, lots of times I felt like HECUs and even Alien Grunts were being spawned behind me in the cheapest scripted way possible, this is an problem that starts to be noticeable in We've Got Hostiles, and by Surface Tension it gets to the point that every time I passed an mounted 50 cal I was expecting an rush of Hecus or Vortigaunts while the original only had 3 total instances of this. As for XEN, the starting areas up to Interloper are just perfect, would not change a single thing about them, perhaps a little of polish to some textures, specially the water, some areas it's noticeably of lower quality and the rivers... well they are not pretty, Interloper has some issues, it drags it's presence for more than it's welcomed to, the conveyor belts by the time you get to that part with.. uhm lets put it this way to not spoil anything, an part of "lots of shooty shooty flying stuff" you're almost brain dead, having just gotten to Interloper with attention demanding areas like Gonarch's Lair and the... chase before you get to Interloper... let's just say it's overall not an fun experience, you loose the momentum, you stop playing out of enjoyment and just want the thing to be done already BUT all of this goes away when the endgame happens, the liberties taken with the Nihilanth fight are an astronomical improvement on the original and when the fight ends we are greeted by everyone knows who, people like to ♥♥♥♥ on voice overs from fan games but I must say this remake did an amazing job with voice, I think every gamer in this planet knows how difficult it is to impersonate the GMAN, let alone recreate his voice, it's tough ♥♥♥♥.

This review is more intended for DEV eyes, if you haven't played this remake yet, well what the heck are you waiting for? A hug?
Go git it and kill some aliens.
PS Devs, missed opportunity for the following achievement: "Avoid killing vortigaunts while in the border world" They're not hostile, and only become hostile due to mind control, totally doable to not kill a single one of them in XEN, except for collateral...

YOU THERE, POTENTIAL BUYER, I HAVE ONE QUESTION AND ONE QUESTION ONLY.

DO YOU LIKE EXPLOSIONS?

Insanely fun to play, some bugs here and there but nothing that breaks game pace.
Play with friends and witness carnage in it's purest form.
