It's not every day you see a new English VN publisher, so I wanted to see what their translation was like.

I'm happy to report that in these times of overlocalization from pretty much all publishers nowadays, the translation in this leans more toward being faithful to the original text. This does NOT mean literal. It reads well in English but they don't remove Japanese culture, add their own jokes where there weren't in the original, or drastically change lines to put their own spin on it unlike some other publishers. The only major deviations from the Japanese I've seen are puns and wordplay but those are more understandable.

Common honorifics are mostly kept with the notable exception of sensei which is weird because it's an extremely common and well known honorific, even outside the anime community. They also keep Yumina's third person speech.

My biggest issue with the translation, though it may be a technical issue, is that there are long background conversations that aren't translated because they're audio only in Japanese. My other gripe is they used Western name order instead of Japanese order. There's also a few instances where lines are shown twice or short simple lines are translated as something completely wrong, like they inserted the wrong lines into the script.

But I think overall they're a welcome addition to the industry with all the issues other publishers have. Their advertising and launch were terrible though because it was marketed as all ages only, but a patch did drop shortly after the VN released.

An abominable localization. They changed the original jokes to dumb, old American memes and references that have no resemblance to the original. Most non-Americans wouldn't understand them, and some are obscure enough that most Americans wouldn't even understand them, so it's no better for accessibility. There's a bunch of jokes, swearing, and shouting added where there wasn't originally. This is basically fanfiction where the localizers are wannabe writers who take this as an attempt to prove they're better than the original writers.

As with all Shiravune releases, they also removed honorifics and swapped name order so they can remove any remaining hint of it being Japanese.

To top it off, there's puzzling censorship where they changed the purposeful SS reference to FS.

The translator for this is different from MLA, and it clearly shows. The translation is often VERY different from what the characters actually say, often with completely made up extra sentences, and they invent personalities for characters that weren't originally there. Translators shouldn't make up all this stuff on their own.
