Obtuse, difficult and slow. The information about the game exists on old websites and a mountain of subtext. The game expects you to fail, cause you will, often. The UI and graphics are incredibly dated. You will have most of your view obstructed by UI elements. Sometimes you will get an unsellable item, that relates to a quest... which you didn't accept or have prior knowledge of. The NPC dialogue is displayed like any player message in chat and the options to progress it, are displayed like Morrowind-style hyperlinks in the text.
TLP servers, regarded as "the best experience™" are even slower than live. Hope you like grinding mobs for hours on end, since they don't have the nice features and many, MANY quests from live, since the servers are locked on a specific expansion (depending on the server). The game at release was called "the chatroom MMO" for a reason. Project 1999 allows you to relive ye olden times, if you really want (I tried it, couldn't handle it lmao).

Despite all that... I keep coming back to this game. There's that je-ne-sais-quoi, that makes the game feel welcoming. Everyone I met in this game is incredibly nice. There's genuine effort at display from the community, to help the new players make sense of this 26(!) year old game and it's many systems.

One of the best games I ever played.

Surprisingly fun.

The gameplay is a typical Ubisoft game loop; find camp, clear camp, find side objective, clear side objective, whoo cutscene, rinse and repeat. But damn, is the grind addicting.

Early Access Review
I can't. It's just so clunky and illogical.

I spawned, followed the tutorial, until the worshipping idols part. Can't worship, ok, so I probably have to build the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing. See a construction log on the ground, can't for the life of me figure out how to pick it up. So I tried to cut down the tree, that would drop my own log, right? Nope. The tutorial is borked was my conclusion, skipped. Spawned in an area where every single polygon was claimed by someone. This prevented me from gathering ANY resources. Walked a bit, still claimed area. Quit.

Play Wurm instead? idk.

It's really good.

There are a few kinks to work out:
- Visibility of the UI for one (some things blend in with another and it's hard to notice them at a glance).
- When holding the dice you cannot replace the die already on the field (which would be the expected behaviour for me personally).
- At the first few floors AI of some enemies heals out the damage you deal to them.
- Some of the writing is a bit too ambitious with its style, making sentences that are just a tiny bit too long (like this one).

I will most probably buy this day 1, since the world really needs more good deck building games.

The game suffers from "Source engine mod syndrome" - bugs, crashes and tedious gameplay by modern standards. I'm dissapointed to say the least.

Graphical glitches (right after lunching and even after relaunching the game few times).
Sound glitches (first launch, I had no sound at all, second only some, on third it finally started working correctly).
Super clunky combat (I understand when it's supposed to be difficult but here, it's just non-functional). Half of the time I don't know if I'm hitting the guy or not.
Visuals although stunning at first, show their uncanny valley teeth, when it comes to humans and reliance on cheap shader effects, when it comes to other visuals.
Lockpicking mini-game is atrocious, I don't understand how would you even come up with something like this. Being drunk and high wouldn't cut it I think, you'd have to be on another plane of existence.

In general this seems like I was hyped a bit too much for this game when it finally went on reasonable sale to appreciate it. Or maybe I'm spoiled by other games. Who knows.
In it's current state, this seems like an early access game, not a full product to me.
