I spent five years in a complete media blackout so that one day I could finally play this game blind, and good god it's still miles ahead of anything I've ever played. The most confident 10/10 I've ever given something.

My very first encounter with a zombie was the most memorable rush of emotions I've felt from a game, and that's from someone who doesn't get immersed easily.

I was in a train carriage, as a zombie awoke from being slumped over and slowly started staggering to me. This was what I had trained for, I was about to get my first real kill. I ready my pistol, aim, and get hit in the face by a projectile the Zombie launched. I return fire, only to be met by a clicking sound. I forgot to ♥♥♥♥ the slide back. In a panic I accidentally press a different button and my pistol magazine ejects from the gun

Instantly, I fall to the floor in panic, my heart racing, as the zombie slowly staggers its way towards me I scramble to my knees to reassemble my gun, shove the magazine back inside, ♥♥♥♥ the gun back, and unload my entire magazine into its face.

This is how Half Life Alyx sold me on VR once and for all. This scene that would've been an intense and memorable moment in a movie, was entirely the making of my own frantic movements and input in a short hallway with a singular enemy. I sigh in relief as I slowly come back to my feet and push on.
