Codemasters really outdid themselves with this one. In previous DiRT games we've received arcade-y type racing games, which can be fun but might not be for the more serious sim racers. This is where DiRT Rally differs, it's a realistic rally simulator for the people who seek a greater challenge in racing games.

Vehicles: In the "normal rally mode" you have 10 different vehicle classes, depending on which classes you pick you'll have different experiences. Personally I find the 2000's class the most fun to drive. There is also a hillclimb gamemode and rallycross which are both lots of fun and also provides with different experiences, though they don't have quite as much content as the rally mode. While the cars can be setup to your liking (or download other peoples stups on the workshop!) my biggest complaint is that the car feels like half the weight than what the description implies.

Maps: The game offers some interesting locations such as the bumpy roads of Finland, to the narrow hairpins of Monte Carlo. Even though the maps are interesting there are just too few. 6 Rally stages, 3 rallycross stages and just 1 hillclimb stage is just too little.

Sounds: The cars sound absolutely great! Not much else to say here other than a good job to the sound design team.

Graphics/Physics: The cars look awesome, so does the landscapes and roads. The crowds kind of looks like dolls just standing there. Good graphics feels like a bonus as they are not super important in these kinds of games. Something that is important however is physics. It's pretty much perfect except for the weight of the cars which I stated earlier.

Story: Get outta here this game needs no story! There is a Career mode though, which lets you start in the lower ranks of rallying then working your way up through the harder ranks (difficulties) which is good if you want progression.

Controls: This is the kind of game you'll want to play with a steering wheel and pedals for the full experience/potential. The majority of the time I have on the game I've played with a controller. Switching from controller to a wheel feels like it has opened a whole new game for me. Playing on a keyboard works but it's not FUN like it should be!

Overall: A solid rally game, it is very hard to learn and even harder to master. Once you get the hang of it you're not gonna want to put it down. The game definitely isn't for everyone, I absolutely do recommend it to anyone who seeks a challenge or is a big simulator fan! The biggest problem is that it lacks in the content department, however there is still potential for a couple hundred hours of fun!

4/5.
