Survival Machine is much more than your typical low-poly zombie survival game. An excellent blend of zombie combat, exploration, puzzles, parkour, tower defense, and survival craft. The exploration loop is a lot of fun and the various handcrafted POI's, puzzles and parkour really just make you want to keep exploring. Entire sections of the biomes will require coordinated efforts from you and your team in order to advance the machine forward.

The grind is fairly minimal and the plethora of upgrades and gear you can obtain along the way makes that grind even less. The storage for the machine is universal, which is a must these days. The zombies are a bit underwhelming one-on-one but quickly become a problem if you get too careless and find yourself surrounded. Horde night is decent if not an inconvenience to your exploration. Its just so fun to explore!

I was able to participate in the Co-Op Beta in the previous week leading up to the co-op demo update, but i would HIGHLY recommend check this game out even if i hadn't. I enjoyed the demo a couple months back and my opinion since then has been nothing but solidified even more. Great game. Cant wait to see more! And here we are!! WOOT!

I played the demo for this game back during the steam demo fest and was happy to follow the development and play the early access release. Unfortunately, I saw that this game was released into 1.0 and not into early access for further development. Whats even better is that I was BANNED from the community hub for asking about this and subsequently asked why my first question was removed. So that basically killed 99% of my good will.

That being said, besides this game being completely unfinished and essentially an actual The Long Dark ripoff (not every survival game that takes place in the winter wilderness is a long dark ripoff, but this one is). The basic features you would expect to find in an "Open World Survival Craft" game aren't implement. Mainly things like crafting.. oh and the "Open World" part. You will be loading between very small areas I started calling "levels". There is really nothing to collect other than sticks, bullets, and food/liquids. You'll get knocked out at the end of the cutscenes and start in a new level and not have any of the items you just collected.

The minimap although needed because you're just wandering thru a whiteout snow storm for the majority of daylight, ruins ANY sense of exploration because the quest objective just tells you the next spot to go to. Not even a proximity thing like i assumed and wasted time looking around for the truck not right where the yellow dot was. Just feels bad all around. And even going off exploring wont yield anything interesting. Its an empty world. The first couple of POI's in the first level were stacked and decorated like nuts but they quickly devolve to empty asset pack boxes.

Its a damn shame the dev went this route. I would have been completely open to an actual answer for the sudden and abrupt change to full release and it would have gone leaps and bounds with anyone interested in supporting this game but instead the dev has chosen the less productive route. Oh well. I still get to buy, play and refund. Cheers.

Its RuneScape Survival. Its dope. Definitely get a bit of a Valheim feel from it also. Feels pretty smooth other than the jumping. The combat actually has a bit of substance to it from my experience so far. Oh yeah, and a MASSIVE DRAGON flew overhead. This is gunna be good, I'm here for it.

It directly states that there is "no goals" in this game, so that's a great set-up.

This game could have a ton of potential and success if the develop actually develops it. Right now its hardly a tech demo. The other reviews are completely accurate and its a damn shame. The graphic style is going to attract a good amount of people because it looks like the "Among Trees" style and I hope they do not get roped into this. AVOID UNTIL MUCH MORE DEVELOPMENT HAS HAPPENED!

I will be refunding, but am open to looking at it again in the future. If.... more development happens. Cheers :)

Update: I now have about 18 hrs in BE1 and I can say that the sequel greatly improves on what seems like all the major shortcomings from the first one. The onboarding for this is much smoother and gets you going with everything you need a lot quicker. The UI and the mechanics although similar, have been vastly improved, from what i've experienced so far. The quest tracking is much less cryptic and vague. All while staying true to the vibe and aesthetic of the original.

TLDR: This is pretty much how sequels should be done.

Its like Raft mixed with some Breath of the Wild. I spent a good amount of time in the demo so i cant wait to see whats in store for this EA release and the rest of the development. Was going to write a review on the demo page but that seems to link to this now.

The exploration and flying is top notch fun! The base building in this is very fun to work with. Its very intuitive and hardly a limiting factor to run into. The way they implement finding new pieces to build is a cool mechanic in itself. The quick time events to speed up harvesting and give combat combo is also a nice QOL feature. Universal storage and a very forgiving inventory system. There;s tons of fuzzy creatures to befriends and islands to explore.

Very nice glimpse into Survival Machine. I am excited to explore the world further and build a huge mobile base! One of the best parts of this is the UNIVERSAL STORAGE! I dig the combat, parkour and puzzles as well. Co-op will make this even more fun when its readt! Low-poly high detail done well. Needs a few QoL things such as access to storage from workstations and the jumping forward momentum is less than reliable at times, making some parkour stuff kind of tedious. I'm wondering if there will be boss fights.

Definitely check this out if you're curious.

Great snapshot into something that has the potential to be super cool! I played through the demo a handful of times now and I have enjoyed my time in each play session. I'm diggin the quest lines and skills The building and crafting seem fairly solid, if not lacking a number of pieces or items. The dog when he works is AMAZING and really adds a ton of presence to fight the feeling of lonesomeness.

The area of the world we get to explore does get cut short a bit by there not being a save feature, but there's not a whole lot to find in the areas beyond. I was able to get everything minus the bugged recon side quests done in one session of about 3.5 hours so the people getting hung up on the save thing is really a very small annoyance at best. Its more annoying that some of the quests were bugged.

Its a demo and it did a good job of showcasing what it is setting out to be. I will certainly be playing future updates and release.

I am pleasantly surprised with how this game is coming along in development. The first handful of months were pretty rocky but they have a solid game now and are implementing interesting mechanics like the sanity system, the weather system, and exploration of the world. Its got its rough points and a handful of bugs present but so far nothing derailing.

The game looks amazing and almost has a cinematic feel to it. It also has the potential to be extremely challenging when ramping up the difficulty. Very atmospheric and chilling environments really set the right tone for this one. When a blizzard hits, you wont be able to see 3 feet in front of you. Truly disorienting. Keep up the good work!
