Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
genre: fighting rpg
developer: Cyber Connect2 Co. Ltd.
publisher: BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment

THE BASE GAME:
We follow the story of Dragon Ball Z without a lot of the filler episode stuff, but the game is long enough as it is. Soundtrack-wise, you will find a lot of the old classics from the anime, but also new versions and the whole soundtrack is perfect. The graphics are amazing and the animations are even better. The game is optimized really well.
So, with a good enough computer, you get stable frames and can enjoy the main part of the game - the combat. You get put in a big arena, where you can move freely and it consists of standard punches/kicks with which you make combos, but you can also fire ki blasts. You have the ability to supercharge, but you can also break your opponent causing them to freeze and allowing you to hit them freely with all your attacks. In combat, you can use super attacks like Kamehameha, Super Beam Cannon or Gallick Gun to name a few, that help you take down your opponent, but you can only use them, if you have enough ki, which you get by standing in place and charging. In some quests or while freeroaming, you have up to two additional characters in your party that help you in combat, where they beat up the enemies and charge their supers, that you can use for them. A massive part of the Dragon Ball franchise is transforming and this game doesnt lack that. You will find every transformation you can remember and they will offer you boosts in combat at a small cost. The combat was done perfectly and the only thing I would say is bad about it is the balance of some enemies according to the manga/anime.
Out of combat, you can explore the vast open world filled with sidequests, orbs and collectibles with which you fill your encyclopedia. While exploring, you may come across campfires or special chef NPC's, with which you can cook special meals from gathered ingredients that give you temporary or permanent buffs. You get a lot of the cooking materials just by roaming the wild and capturing animals, but also by playing a fun fishing minigame, that will make all the og fans feel true dejavu from the very first episode of the original Dragon Ball manga/anime. Aside from cooking materials, you can also come across caves filled with various ores and rare items, with which you build and upgrade cars and other robots. After getting enough orbs, you can upgrade your characters or unlock their new abilities.
If you choose to do the main story, you will be happily suprised with dejavu filled voice lines and cutscenes. Every important aspect of the Dragon Ball Z story is included, so don't be afraid of the game missing something.
Have you finished the main story? Dont worry! You still have a lot of stuff to do. Some recommendations would be getting all the steam achievments, completing the encyclopedia or upgrading everything to the maximum.
Overall, I haven't enjoyed a game this much in a pretty long time, so I would recommend it, and if you're a fan of the series, make sure you get the DLC's for more content.

A NEW POWER AWAKENS DLC SET:
This set of two DLC's brings the Dragon Ball Super series into the game and I've got to say that after the main game, I expected a little bit more.
The first DLC consists of getting put on Beerus' planet as Goku and Vegeta and training with him/Whis. Here, you unlock god ki along with god transformations and new abilities. This was a fine catchup for the second DLC, but it got repetitive really fast and only really helped you improve your gameplay.
The second DLC covers the "Ressurection F" movie/saga and it brings back the action from the main game. You get some new side quests, but also a cool main quest line with Frieza filled with cutscenes.
As a set, I would recommend it, but be prepared to grind. It will come with a prize of course, the Frieza part.

TRUNKS - THE WARRIOR OF HOPE DLC:
In this DLC, you get put into the life of future Trunks during the Android Saga and a part of the Buu Saga and experience the world as it was for him and his friends. As a massive fan of Trunks as a whole, this was a treat to play for me.
Trunks starts off young and weak, but by losing almost everything and everyone dear to him, he transforms into a powerful warrior. After losing his sensei, future Gohan, he achieves super-saiyan and starts training on his own until his mum, Bulma makes a time machine. Using it, he travels to the normal timeline, which he helps save and trains with the other heroes. After getting a massive power boost in the present, he comes back and destroys the Androids in his timeline, avenging everyone. After that comes the future Buu Saga, where the Kais train him with the Z-Sword and he defeats Buu, Babidi and Dabura.
This DLC was, for me, the best thing about the whole game and I loved every single moment of it. I just wish that it was longer, but even as it is, it contained some stuff, that we've never seen before! If you enjoy the main game, do not even think about buying this and start playing it as soon as you can!
