Sat on this for a whole year because i couldn't get myself to play past the tutorials, but after getting into the main game I'm actually having a lot of fun, even by myself. Sure we all wanted a single player game, but you can play this like one and get your moneys worth, especially since this thing is in a massive discount. Good game, too bad people didn't expect a live service game. Rocksteady did a great job with the characters and the gameplay is good. Sad to see such a prestigious studio take such a big hit over this.

Oppressive atmosphere, but you are compelled to play. Many bugs that break sidequests still and the game is a slow burn as you walk everywhere. But you will learn over time to not overpack, find artifacts etc. that make traversal less of a burden. There's no experience quite like this. There's nothing uplifting in this game for your mood and every session leaves you drained, but the combat is very satisfying and the characters well written. There's a level of horror, mystique, discovery. The game reveals itself over time and almost 100 hours in i feel like i'm still learning new things about the mechanics underneath this game.

Indy back in his true form, a true modern adventure game. Kudos to Troy Baker for excellent voice work.

Early Access Review
Throwing physics are kinda well done, but the course selection was an exercise in frustration until i figured out you can't click the button, but the title :eyeroll:, a fun little game if you don't pay much for it. Too bad it seems to be dead in the water. I'll probably finish the game in a few years time.

Amazing passtime anywhere anytime, rewarding, engaging and sometimes frustrating. Just ... one more round.

TLDR;
Charming at first and then turns into a slow repetitive chore in the open world. Feels like a lot of the things you do are there to just hide the fact there's not that much substance or actual content in the game. What's little is there is decently written and executed for what it is. Technically the game looks decent (maxed out) but the game still fails to run properly on a relatively beefy 4090 / 5950x system because of stuttering. It's a 5.5/10, get it from the bargain bin, but never pay full price.

Does a good job bringing the harry potter universe alive with music, acting, spells etc. but doesn't do a great job maintaining the 'magic'. There's a lot of pointless and time consuming running back and forth through places where using brooms isn't allowed. After the umpteenth similar lock pick event you'd just like to have the locks drop automatically instead of slowing you down for something you've already seen many times.

The open world style doesn't do this game a lot of favors because ultimately you end up spending hours flying across the map to do another identical boring encounter, merlin challenge or trying to find that one chest in a locked house or a cranny of a dungeon that rewards you with ultimately nothing worth while or anything that alters the gameplay, just cosmetics with slightly better stats. Alternatively you spend a lot of time running back&forth in a location where you aren't allowed to use faster means of transport to do the same thing over and over again. Somehow you lose the ability to use a broom in a place where you could easily use one to collect or access an area or collect another cosmetic item, adding to the artificially inflated game-time feeling.

You can't fast-track the game either, because proceeding through the plot you are forced to do more repetitive chores and walking around to move forward. At some point i was just wishing it would end.

If you're a zealous fan of harry potter that will tolerate hours of slow wandering and a repetitive game loop (90% of your game time) to enjoy the few moments of short but decently written plot content (one of the side quests is a lot more interesting than the main story) it's a decent buy for at least 50% off which i paid, but after so many amazing games in 2023 i wasn't that impressed.

It's difficult to see how this game will be topped by anything in the next several years. Baldur's Gate 3 spoils every other story / character driven game just like Witcher 3 did when it came out.

Just as scary and atmospheric as it was in 1994

A bit short, but fun. Too short for a full price, but if you find a nice discount, go for it. Just go straight to hard core mode that disables every other bit of the UI except the weapon wheel and the map, otherwise your game time will be even shorter.
