Despite some strange UI choices on launch, this is in my opinion the most refreshing take on the Civ series in it history, as far as mechanics and gameplay go.

Civs have far more personality as a result of the Age system, and while it will take some time for it to settle in, I think the Age system is going to be a great addition. However, it seems as a result of the more flavorful and unique Civ events, bonuses and crises, there is a rather sparse selection of Civs at launch. I shudder to think what the DLC policy will end up looking like - will we have to purchase $200 worth of DLC just to have a good selection of Civs and Leaders?

I appreciate that Firaxis tries something new in each of these titles, and I expected to not be a huge fan of the new Age mechanics at first since it took quite a while for me to warm up to Civ 6, but each and every new mechanic from the new City-State interactions to the 'reset' between each Age preventing snowballing is a choice I can get behind, and makes for extremely addicting gameplay. I'm excited to see how this one matures.
