unfortunately, Capcom once again shoots the game's foot with an obnoxiously convoluted multiplayer system that mandates jumping through unnecessary hoops all on top of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is the game's performance. inexcusable

otherwise, gameplay is :chefkiss:

Given that this game has been out for a while, nothing to put here story-wise that stands out so I'll just discuss the performance of the demo.

- There is no support for superultrawide resolution (32:9) or just ultrawide (21:9) as 16:9 seems to be the limit.
- Some cutscenes, a lot being realtime, are capped at 30fps which looks extremely jarring and unacceptable especially during gameplay-to-cutscene transitions.
- Some of the Eikonic battle cutscenes seems to have been rendered at a lower resolution while the game plays out at higher framerates which just like the previous point looks extremely off.
- There was observed stuttering on a system with a 14900KS and an RTX 4090, testing with another CPU such as the 7950X3D showcased the same issue.
- Honestly, the textures didn't seem to have much of an uplift from the PS5 version to justify the 170GB space requirement of the game.

Either way, I am a shameless Bahamut simp who will shell out $69.99 for him and him alone, the rest are irrelevant 'DLC' :)

With an RTX 4090 and a 14900KS at 5120x1440 (Note: black bars are shown on the sides so maximum support seems to be at 3120x1440. performance at 7680x2160 not tested), getting around 70-80 FPS with PT enabled which is on par with Cyberpunk's RT Overdrive. It is one beautiful game, whether its gameplay is up to par remains to be discovered on release.

As usual, given the developer's lack of a storied background save for Art of War: Red Tide, DO NOT PRE-ORDER AND WAIT FOR REVIEWS.

Early Access Review
The Crust actually refers to the sleep gunk that forms on your eyes after falling asleep waiting for anything to happen in this broken and incomplete game that happens to also feature an irritating assistant by the name of Alice.

My only complaint is the FLAC/WAVs are not part of it.

Thanks Capcom for letting people spend a ton of time customizing their characters so it doesn't bite into the refund window when the game turns out to be a disappointment come release day. Please don't be a disappointment, there's been enough in recent times. Been waiting since 2012 for the sequel.

The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed, one of life's greatest blessings is the freedom to buy this remake to devour your freetime once again.

Why is the OST/Artbook not separate files, ATLUS!

migraines from bugs, ctds, etc aside when you mod this masterpiece; it is literally better than Starfield besides having been re-released for practically everything you own.

your innocence should be safe, as long as you stay out of LoversLab

Several months after release, this game still fails to deliver on a majority of its promises and still has a glaring lack of variety in assets. That alone already disqualifies it from being labeled a "city painter" with its fail-safe-ridden 'economic simulation' removing any sort of management agency in the 'game'. Major bugs, glitches, and notable missing QoL features from CS1 that has been asked about/for in the official forums remains unaddressed. Performance even on top-tier hardware is still abysmal which makes large and heavily populated cities non-viable for satisfactory gameplay.

Avoid this game for a few years, definitely a colossal step backwards from CS1.

--- OLD ---

Another unfortunate disappointment from Paradox with poor performance on a top-end PC and irritating bugs/glitches galore (citizens complaining of poor health despite full coverage, flickering shadows, seemingly poor LOD quality, low quality textures, very low model variety leading to repetitive 'copy-paste' neighborhoods, irritating terraforming tools, same zoning gripes with roads from CS1, etc).

Decided to try it out on Steam after the Gamepass version seems to have decided it didn't want to work for unknown reasons and played for a bit to see how the game performs on cities with populations around 50k+ just to find that my framerate, which dips downward to 5 FPS when I look anywhere remotely at my downtown, is still getting bogged down by whatever disastrous nonsense is going on with the game's rendering system while the CPU, even on an old 9900k, chugged along just fine.

Avoid the game for a few weeks or months, probably a few years if Crusader Kings 3 or any previous Paradox games had been any indication, before purchasing to give time for patches or 'extra content' via the usual route of DLCs.

If you're buying it anyway, best disable Dynamic Scaling, Volumetric Lighting, DoF, Motion Blur, and Fog to recover some free FPS.

TLDR: A 'sequel' that is a step backwards from its predecessor with 'poor performance' cherry on top

To save time on summarizing this shallow and repetitive husk of a game, there are far more enjoyable mods out there for other games that had more content and passion poured into it than Starfield.
