They had a winner on their hands, and failed when swept under the waves by better game developers. The modern version of the game is terrible in my opinion, but previously, lots of fun.

What can I say that other more intelligent people have said? It's a good game if you like civilization.

This game is very fun. A classic deception game with added roles that are balanced and fun to play as, (most of the time and depending on your tastes).

I originally played SC2 Mafia, but as I became a more casual player and more of my friends transitioned, i switched to Town of Salem.

I recommend this game as an introduction to deception games, however as I am also a fan of SC2 Mafia I will give a short comparison for the uninitiated.

Disclaimer: These categories are obviously not balanced and are simply what i would use to decide which "Mafia" game i would want to play.

Variety of Roles: SC2 Mafia ++

Currently SC2 Mafia offers a larger variety of roles that make the game more interesting and overall more entertaining. As of right now, Roles that are in SC2 Mafia but are not in Town of Salem include:
  • As well as a seperate Mafia force called the Triad, which is essentially just a reskinned and renamed Mafia, but allows for Multiple Mafia teams in All Any or Mafia Vs. Triad games in custom.[vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net]

Most of the extra roles revolve around the possibility of Citizens, namely the Masons and the Auditor.

Least time spent in Lobby/Que: Town of Salem ++

Town of Salem's standalone client (and website) makes finding games very fast and perfect for casual playing. The friends lobby system also makes it easy for friends to que into games together. Both of these are issues you will have playing SC2 Mafia

Variety of Cosmetics: Town of Salem +

Self explainatory. SC2 Mafia cosmetics are free after a certain amount of games, but ToS wins in variety.

Variety and Customizable Game Modes: SC2 Mafia ++

This one goes to SC2 Mafia because there are strengths you can give to or take away from roles, a feature not yet in Town of Salem. This makes for even more interesting games, As everyone in SC2 Mafia community has their own preferred game save. Don't think Executioners should be night immune? You can turn that off. Do you think Vigi should only be able to shoot twice? You can turn that off. Overall SC2 Mafia wins in this category hands down.

    To Summarize

Overall SC2 Mafia is superior for me in terms of enjoyment, but ToS is a great alternative if you want quick games and leaver penalty. ToS has strengths in it's addition of the report system, easy access to games and community (big bonus) however, for me, SC2 is the better game when it comes to time spent to enjoyment levels.

If Town of Salem adds the other roles and adds a more customizable lobby system, I will not hesitate to remove the comparison or at the very least modify it to review these changes.

Took me an hour to 100% the game and i was satisfied. I would've payed a dollar for this cute little game, looks like it come out of the NES generation but plays a little bit more modern. Pretty fun and cute, a good play if you're looking for some free fun.

I loved this game. It was alot of fun, and maybe in the future I will play it again, but for now, I refuse to support Overkill and Starbreeze.

When the community was very outspoken about their disapproval of the implementation of microtransactions, the developers were silently watching, waiting for the tide of negative publicity to fade away, all while they attempted to ease the open wound with free content. Veteran player rejoice, and new players could experience a PD2 iteration of PD:TH Missions. These were well done, and players (and customers alike) were willing to live with the change, and forget their feelings on Day 1 of Crimefest 2.

Ever looming, a darkness finally sprang from the shadows.

Update 90.

The players had no idea what hit them! In one fell swoop, Overkill announced that the "secret rewards" for buying the completely overkill pack during the "Hype train" event were really what the players had feared the most ; A free drill and safe (2.49$ worth in case you were not aware), as well as 8 Free DLC.

"This sounds mighty generous! Good on overkill for giving back to their consumer base", The naive onlooker will think, basking in his ignorance. Little does he know that most of the people who were willing to pay 20$ for a totally optional DLC pack, would more then likely, already own these DLC.

Not only this, but there were even more bonuses given to these Safes. Team bonus! You now give a buff to your entire squad by having these items you can purchase with real money.

I guess overkill wanted to give the players claiming this game was Pay2Win some merit.

C'est la vie.

This game is beautiful, horrifying, and emotional.

No gaurentee you will like this game just because you liked Amnesia TDD. That being said, I am one of the ones who did.

In frictional style, the horror and fear slowly pick up pace, sort of like a marathon runner. It gets more and more intense the further you get, at some point just constantly barraging you with problems and nightmare fuel.

I felt really connected to the protagonist. Stressed, uncomfortable, scared, and at times I felt very bad. Awful. In a video game, I felt morally wrong! If you're looking for a game that really makes you think, feel, and send you into a flight or flight panic every time the monster sees you, then this is the game for you.

I enjoyed SOMA immensely. If you are an Amnesia TDD fan then you may consider buying this game on sale.
