This game has a lot going for it. As of right now, its biggest issue is the fact that it doesn't have a wide player base unfortunately. That being said however for only $10.00 USD at the time of this review, you and a friend could both snag a copy and play together for less than other, often times worse games cost for only one copy. This is also viable because the NPCs do pose enough of a threat to overcome a by and large lack of other individuals.

The developers are still consistently updating the game and striving to improve it.

I would recommend this game to anyone who is on the fence, into the survival genre and wants something new or just simply wants a darker, grittier survival shooter which has NO ZOMBIES (thank goodness).

Early Access Review
Largely reminiscent of the original mod, as is to be expected, this game as it is in its current state does not fail to sate the thirst for that which it's parent title instilled in thousands of gamers. That said however, this is for early access to the Alpha so do not expect anything more.

Whether you are returning from the mod or simply want to be a part of the development process then you will likely find the game to have have much more potential than its predecessor ranging anywhere from the new loot system, to the visual appearance of gear, to include the new encuberance and inventory system.

From the get-go, it is painfully clear that this is, although highly refined for its stage in development, still an alpha test and many functioning features away from being considered a viable beta test. Veterans of the game will quickly notice the lack of vehicles (of any kind) within game. Sure the large map of Chernarus is a great selling point, but it can detract quite a bit when you have no way of transporting your goods. Most importantly, I feel, is the gleaming cracks in the combat system. Where a hatchet is still a one-hit one-kill weapon against Zeds, its brutally apparent that the game will one register 1 out of every 15 swings if you are lucky (using the audio effect of a gunshot I made add). It does feel slightly unbalanced those as accuracy of registered hits seems to be a failure only on the player's side of the combat with almost all of the zombie's strikes connecting successfully. Furthermore, it is evident that many systems are going to be present in the full game and are slowly, and detrimentally making their way into via this testing platform. For example, players will feel more consequence for staying outside without proper gear when it is cold because they develop a sickness. This causes the screen to go gray and blurry and most notably shake on regular intervals. This is a great result of failure to play the game properly, however it lacks the proper recourse for correcting the action. Items are placed inside the game to 'cure' the sickness thus, in theory, removing the symptoms yet they are not fully functioning. This is an unitended - fail-once-your-done - form of punishment which makes the game largely unplayable once affected.

All said, the game is beautiful piece for being in the Alpha stages but take heed and understand that your $30.00 is being committed to a work in development and not even to the same extent of waiting for features. As a player in this game you will experience bugs, glitches, lack of features and completely failure of playability so brace yourself. If you are new to the title or looking for something better than the Mod I urge you to wait for the Beta or even full launch. If you're considering the $30.00 as per-order with a free game, looking to assist in the development or absolutely cannot wait then you can't go wrong.

Play well,
