Good game.
Not great port.
Controls are basically keyboard-only, If you use a controller (I do) it's still 8-direction movement/turning. Just terrible.

Graphics = Mediocre
Controls = Jank and bad
Gameplay = One of the best feels for DW. This and 5 have the best impact. Real weight behind things. I usually prefer SW or SB.
Value = None. The game is good. The DLC is so bad that it it sucks up the value of the base game.

Buy a PlayStation version.
If you're sick of your controllers breaking, get a PS3 and play there. You'll also get to experience OG Demon's Souls (it IS different)
If you can't do either of those, buy it at 75% or more off.

There's also 5, which you can play Any Way You Can TM.

Updating this review periodically.
4 hours in. Used the same team the whole time because why upgrade everything very slowly, when this is functioning.
3 have "Elemental Tome" on them, which is cast multiple times during a battle. Random carp happening constantly. Synergies occurring without my direct intent. Buffs happening because I smashed a thing earlier, no idea what they do.
Hyped about the fact that you can LITERALLY SCRIPT YOUR PARTY MEMBERS. "Well, since you'll be playing this for... ever, I may as well let dealing with all these THINGS manageable." It's really just if/then statements, but I bet I could break that system... I'mma try.

This is brilliant and wonderful. I've mystified my friends by loving inventory management my whole life, and I get to have that satisfying feeling with no strings attached!
Lovely.

I can't wait until I forget all the solutions so I can play it again.
Thankfully there is a sequel. So psyched to play that.

Ok, 4 is better, but this is still a blast.
I don't get people giving a game a thumbs down because it's not as good as a different game.
"It's a step back." Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. And who cares? It's still GREAT.

This is a bad game that is bad.
There are interesting enemy designs, there may well be an interesting story in there. I will never no because I cannot be forked to play any longer than the 40 minutes I have played.
The fact that you start with 100hp but the weakest attacks from enemies do 15, and they come rapid-fire makes it seem like you have 5 hits at best before death. The only attempt to balance it is to put 2 enemies in a room at time, which makes it very boring.
Your attack is "wap... wap... wap... wap" no combos, long cooldown between slashes. Heavy attack is "...fwsh!" and there goes most of your stamina.
OH and the stamina recovery! Slower than any From game.

The fact that this is free and I feel ripped-off is why you will never see my review for the paid version I never played. Because why would I pay when I feel like I was robbed.

Shrouded in Sanity? More like stealing my sanity!

Pros:
I love the atmosphere.
I love the art.
I like the soundtrack.
The story and lore seem cool.

The combat is too fast.
The enemies move too fast.
You move too fast.
"Levelling" is almost entirely meaningless.
Healing is tied almost entirely to the "parry" mechanic, or spending karma, but before I got a second weapon I was able to make it so I didn't have to spend karma, so that was an f-ing lie.
The "parry" mechanic gives multiple frames of visual cue, but seems to have 1/2 of a frame to execute it.
The difficulty setting just reduces the number of enemies from "I can't see the floor" to "makes sense" and allows you to heal. Slowing the game down would have been a better way to balance it.

After 2 hours I hit a boss the homonculus that is just nonsense. Split-second everything, lenghthy AoEs, tiny arena...
I'm very sad to say that I have like 40 more years on Earth, and banging my head against this game isn't worth it.

Yet another game that thinks "If you're inspired by Dark Souls, you need to be unreasonably difficult."
From makes games that punish you for mistakes, not games that pummel you for playing them. Well, aside 2. DS2 is trash.

Do you like Fallout 3? Stop playing that, and play this. Did you like the early Fallout games, and want to experience the process of strolling across an empty, dead wasteland? Get this NOW.
I don't enjoy playing this game. I have tried for 43 total hours (probably several more. Played offline sometimes, iirc) and can't stand it.
I'm sitting here, knowing it's good, but bored out of my skull and savescumming because I some robot aimbot (makes sense) snipes me across a room full of broken machinery and my limbs fly off, over and over.
I don't like how hopeless it all is (that's Obsidian for ya!).
I don't like the whizz filter.
I don't like the obtuse repair mechanics. I have crazy high tech skill. I have all the parts. There's a bench and tools around. Why do I have to save up a crazy amount of money and walk across the map (or fast travel with no real cost or risk).
The jokes don't land because I know the moment I'm done talking to the yutz in town I will have to trudge across the desert with nothing but 10 songs and the occasional combat encounter that depletes resources I can't keep up with, and if I turn survival off there's no reason to pay attention to half the things in the game.
Half the things being all the random consumables and crafting materials because since it's this era of games it NEEEEDED a crafting system, sure. If it was in another engine it would probably have had drop-in/drop-out coop.

My friend loves this game. She has every reason to, because she likes the above stuff. Totally fair.
Good game.
I hate it with a passion.
I hate it less than 3, but 3 is a very bad game, so there's nothing to be passionate about.

Play 1, 2 then Wasteland Remastered (or the original, because I think pixel art looks better than smeary upscaled, but that's just personal taste. I'm old), watch the show.
If you absolutely need more, play this. Then... repeat.

Absolute trash. 8/10

Edit:
I just remembered Fallout 4.
...What was I talking about again?

Alright, the game was innovative.
It was a big deal for a reason. It has aged like milk/
Like all Valve games, honestly) I keep waiting for the game to start. I got to the last room of Portal thinking "This is the longest tutorial I have ever dealt with!"
This game has full-on cocaine nosejob ADHD. It keeps trying to be every genre of game and does it for about 10 minutes at a time in multiple hours of gameplay.
The fact that the game doesn't use normal cutscenes and instead does it in-engine while the player is part of it is cool, but they should have established that Gordon is literally mute because it feels like he's a moron.

Why is he the messiah? Why is that not considered REALLY WEIRD?

THE VEHICLES!!! They're heinous to control with keys and not much better with a controller.
The physics make no sense. Cool that it was added to games, and impressive for the time. But it's just WILD. What weighs what, what can be picked up... Bizarre.

Now excuse me while I rage-play it with a script to allow me to AIM. (I'm still amazed that isn't an option)

Video games haven't gotten fundamentally better since this was first released. I'm talking the GameCube version.

They don't look better.
Textures have gotten higher-rez, but these perfectly suit the look of this game.
Polygon counts have gotten higher, but the designs makes these look great.
The cutscenes are dynamic and punchy. The animations are great.

Controls have gotten more accessible, and, honestly, I don't think there is any excuse for how absurdly awkward the controls were on launch, especially considering the way the GC controller worked.
This game is great with what's there already, but the tweak tool fixes things up nicely.
They're not the same as many shooters these days, but I think standardisation of gameplay is a double-edged sword. I like that this game has a specific feel to the controls.

The story is silly, over-the-top, and the twists left me doing the blinking white guy meme or laughing uproariously. Usually both, actually.

The only thing I find genuinely bad game design is all the QTEs. Set those to be automatically passed (tweaks!) if you find them too frustrating, but try it with them on.

This being remade before the first game or Code Veronica is absolutely ludicrous.
All they did is add more graphics, paint everything important yellow, and make it less silly (which makes it less fun). They made Leon less stupid and cocky. Being able to investigate things and his response usually being "what is this for?" is the best.
The self-satisfied, oblivious, nature of him is part of the charm!

Are there a couple moments that aged like milk? Not many.
The parts the VR version cut? Eh. No big loss, no big deal.
The game is 20 years old. It's impressive how little aged poorly in that regard.

I may expand this review later, but I can't concentrate.

Alright, BIG caveats.
This is harder to recommend than 4. 4 is better than all three of these combined, and that's without the (absurd amount of) DLC.
Note: I only play solo. That colours my opinion, for better or worse.

This gets you a lot of very long (too long, if you ask me) levels, lots of brains to pop, lots of satisfying kills, lots of bullets... The tone across the 3 games is exponentially sillier and both more and less "Video Games!" at the same time.

I've not finished it, and it's gonna take a lot of time and a lot of rage. The difficulty settings are so limited. 3 levels of difficulty, affects both the gunplay and the damage output of enemies.
It's so much more fun with the gravity, wind etc affecting the bullet travel, but between the level design and CoD health (4 uses healing items) I'm frustrated greatly by the amount of damage I take.
I chose to git gud rather than play without bullets that act like bullets. But even then I only have the enemies set to 1 player!
In 4 I would set the bullet mechanics all the way up (but with the red sight on. Sue me), the enemy damage way down and the enemy spawn rate to the maximum. Made me feel like a superhero!

This is a far, FAR less interesting game(s?). It's fine, and my current computer is absolute Pringles of a potato can run it.

I'll probably finish it.
