A pretty decent roguelite that has a clean loop. There's quite a bit of grinding to max out your pre-run benefits if you're into that.

This is one of the most creative roguelikes out there.
It's reminiscent to Spelunky in its basic gameplay loop. You enter ruins of some type, head down through mines, ice caves, underground jungles, temples, and more.

It adds on alchemy and spells, and has a bunch of alternate/hidden objectives that you can discover.

Pros:
  • The spell system is great. You can build outlandish and creative wands that only occasionally kill you.
  • The world map is pretty massive and a lot of the secret objectives are awe-inspiring to achieve.
  • The standard ending's path is varied in biomes and enemies/traps.
Cons:
  • The learning curve is steep, which can be a turn-off. It varies from person to person, but I'd say its learning curve is roughly similar to Spelunky.
  • The other biomes are generally not worth exploring normally, due to health refills only being available on the main path, except in a few niche scenarios. This means that it's typically not worth exploring them until you've completed the main path and gotten extremely powerful, meaning that you can often just dig around them instead of exploring them normally.
  • Some of the secrets are extremely unlikely to be encountered blindly. Parallel worlds are especially notable for their huge upside and no indication of their existence, with the game doing everything possible to prevent you from going there.
  • In order to do some of the harder secret quests, you need to explore so much of the world that the game becomes laggy and crashes often. The backup saves help but the performance is bad for these quests.
