adore what this remake is and its faithfulness to the original, wish there were more games like it in recent years besides prey.

Frankly, it's not for everyone. A lot of the game is exploration that involves back-tracking and **some reading (but you can just scan documents for numbers for the most part) combined with resource management and shooting. But these things accumulate to actions that feel like they have weight. The stops you make during your venture through Citadel Station feel like they matter because of the work that was put in to accomplish whatever task you completed on each floor.

For those who like easy games, this is not for you. This game does not hold your hand at all, it doesn't tell you where to go explicitly and enemy encounters can be brutal if you're not expecting them.

Sonic Generations 9/10
They made some weird dialogue changes to the original generations along with new VOs that have a worse performance, but other than that Sonic Generations is still a fantastic game I'd recommend to anyone, especially as a first Sonic game. Out of all 18 acts the only one I didnt care for was Crisis City Act 2. Honestly some of the best level design in the series. My few complaints are how Rooftop Run was gutted when compared to Unleashed (which I think is probably the best boost stage and maybe the best 3-D Sonic stage) and the little modding support for this release of the game in comparison to the previous pc release.

Shadow Generations 7/10
Honestly I wish that the original Generations got the love for white world like this game got. I really liked the challenges that were available in the hub and wish there were more of them. The collectables, more specifically the nuts/bolts, were a [female dog] to find though especially if you only had one or two left since theres no map indicators or hints. As for the stages themselves, all of them are pretty good. I think that the choice to split 2-D and 3-D into Acts 2 and 1 respectively was a choice of all time though. One of the strongest points of the Act 2 stages in Sonic Generations was the mix of 3-D and 2-D platforming combined with the boost mechanic. I really wish this game didn't drop that design philosophy and opt for completely 2-D and 3-D levels. It makes them feel more linear and uninteresting. Speaking of linearity, a lot of the stages didn't offer as many alternate routes/short-cuts. They add had a few jumps you could do to skip smaller portions but none that offered a completely different route. As for the level choices themselves, this really felt like a love letter to SA2 fans along with the Maria stuff. Whats weird though is in a game all about Shadows stages he doesnt have a single level from his stand alone game and two stages where in one he was a side character and the other he wasn't even in the game its from. The cutscenes that play mid-stage are cool on first playthroughs but get annoying on replays, especially if you just want to play a certain stage and not get sent to Radical Highway with a 10 second delay between gameplay portions. Of course, these things don't stop the levels from being fun. I did enjoy playing through these stages for the most part but they just aren't as complex or difficult like either some of their original counterparts or sonic gen's level design.

Visually, its great. I loved the glow-up of the old stages that makes me wish we got SA2 or heroes remakes. If Im not mistaken its using the same engine as Frontiers so graphically its like that but physics wise it doesnt play like [donkey] like that game.

Another thing I disliked was the pay-walling of tracks. A lot of the most iconic tracks for Shadow are not earnable and are in the Extra Content pack. For a game about a celebration of buddy's history its kind of sad that they did that for his biggest tracks. Sonic Generations didn't do that, it didn't even have DLC despite probably being the best modern sonic game (my opinion). Leave the movie stage and skins as DLC but give the people the music, man.

bad port of a good game, only recommend if you get the mods that fix the control sensitivity, rendering issues, and change the emerald radar

The way the DLC was packaged and priced is actually criminal (hence the mass negative reviews) considering base game + all DLC is now $135 USD, most of which is BGM, outfits, and pay-to-win Personas (which makes an already easy game easier why would anyone pay for that?). The only real thing of any value is, of course, The Answer which in itself I don't think is worth $35, maybe $20-25.

I cannot possibly recommend this "expansion pass" at the base price since most of the DLC should be base game anyways. Come on, Like a Dragon had tracks from ATLUS games included for free, yet ATLUS games make you pay for ATLUS music.
