I went into this visual novel knowing just two things. 1) It's made by Key, known for their other games of crying girls like Kanon and Clannad. 2) One route was written by Ryukishi07, writer of Higurashi and Umineko, known for some gory deaths and lots of despair.

Turns out this perfectly defines what you get. Even though Ryukishi only did one route, his involvement only makes sense if the rest of the game has a similar tone. This makes for a much more bleak story than what you get with Key's earlier works.

The game's certainly not flawless. The use of multiple writers leads to some inconsistency between routes, and I'm not the biggest fan of how a few things later on are handled. But overall I found it a very enjoyable experience and had trouble putting it down.

Some reviews complain about translation quality issues. Those have largely been fixed, and aren't really worth mentioning anymore since you won't be playing that version of the game. I saw a few very minor typos, and ran into a few Steam Deck-exclusive issues, namely with the three animated cutscenes (as the devs are still working on official compatibility, and Japanese VN devs love their Windows Media Player dlls).
