Early Access Review
Went from a fun, post work activity that was actively challenging but highly rewarding to an absolute drag. I've been playing (what was supposed to be for fun) a ranger using the spear. It does virtually no damage which is fine, because the game is about how to maximize it, but I'm pretty much stuck in act 2/3 because of how tanky everything is. Because damage and wave clear is so low, you constantly are fighting 1 extremely tanky enemy or 12 average enemies that move so quick that you have to just stand still because you are probably already boxed in. I am giving this a poor review until they make adjustments. Simply put, this isn't "fun" anymore.

Act 1 took about 6 hours, act 2 is taking about 8 hours and act 3 will probably take even longer. I could switch and try to use "meta" but they killed vitually all the most popular builds because they didn't believe the game should be played with 1/2 buttons. Now every single encounter is 8 buttons:

- 3 whirlwinds
- parry, frost, parry, frost, parry frost THEN they are frozen
- auto attack because the skills are so weak that just stabbing things is stronger and faster
- setup bleed
- ultimately get surrounded and potion spam then try to dodge 9 times out

Its extremely exhausting

***EDIT: MY GAMEPLAY TIMER IS CONTINUING TO GO UP WITH THE GAME NOT OPEN AT ALL. AT THE TIME I POSTED MY REVIEW, I HAD 1.7 HOURS. I POSTED AND REFRESHED AND NOW IT STATES I HAVE 2 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY. I HAVE NOT LAUNCHED THE GAME NOR IS IT RUNNING AT THIS TIME. SOME REALLY SHADY STUFF IS GOING ON.***

This game is the reason why triple A titles exist and charge stupid amounts for games that are just good enough:

1. Its possible this game was made with AI. All voice over work is wonky, weird and possibly done via AI. characters talk and the mouths just do random movements or nothing at all

2. all "zombies" do the exact same running style, shot animations and are almost all the same model type (male, female, brute, etc) don't spam the zombies with bullets as the bullets only register 1 at a time per animation. instead you shoot, wait for zombie to scream, then shoot again. repeat until dead. basic zombies take 3-10 bullets randomly between. The mini boss/brute took 60 pistol rounds and did not die.

3. zombies have near infinite aggro range and then suddenly disappear when far enough away from spawn/building. not to mention you can walk 2 feet from then with nothing, but if you shoot your gun zombies from 4 buildings away can hear and react. making it so you never shoot or if you do, you regret it

4. random forced land plot mode. nothing is intractable (cant use radio or gas lamp or bed). why does it exist?

5. this is not an MMO, but a scaled down version of DayZ server selection and play. good luck finding your friends

6. guns had extreme idle sway animation making hitting basic shots difficult. feels like my character just ran a marathon and is trying to breathe through a straw

7. no melee.... no key-bind, no melee weapons, nothing. IDK if I never made it far enough but when out of ammo you are simply dead

8. loot is a complete atrocity. loot a cop car, got a spoon. loot a weapon crate, got 2 shotgun shells. Loot is semi-logic based but is scaled so far down that its borderline unplayable unless you enter with 200 extra rounds

9. open PVP with no obvious way to communicate with others. net-code was questionable as someone ran away from me, their zigzagging was hyper speed Saitama sidesteps. just gave up and ran. yet I was walking down the street and randomly one-tapped by another player with no death info. I am simply dead.

10. when you die, you lose everything, no exceptions. all guns, bags, meds, gear, GONE. way too harsh, no mechanic to retrieve it

11. almost all of the map is closed off buildings. besides 1 room coffee shops and random garbage stores. one had an alarm that I tried to guess and failed. when it went off it stayed in range of my sound for 30 seconds of running down 3 blocks of streets. finally it just disappeared 4 blocks away. not a single piece of loot outside of a bag with toothpaste. instead there are "special" POI that you can visit to get decent loot at the cost of all of your ammo. congrats, you got a pillow and a jacket!

12. no UI, no indicators, no nothing. the safe house you have to memorize because there's nothing showing you where to go. in the game area, you have to remember street signs and directions of travel. the safezone of woodbury is a cluster and difficult to navigate for no reason.

13. NO ULTRAWIDE SUPPORT. how?

14. looting takes an insanely long time and you have to be pixel perfect or you won't even know you can loot something. most the time was me rubbing against all containers and walls to find literally anything to loot.

15. first game I've ever seen without an FOV slider

16. buggy, glitchy mess for others. I was fortunate enough to only have 2 crashes in my entire time. when I did crash it put me back in "raid" with all my stuff which was nice

I can genuinely keep going but will stop as I have made my point. This game was more than likely never supposed to exist, but after they swore it was real after years of mysterious delays and backlash, they had to follow through. This game plays like garbage, looks like garbage for an URE5 game, and they do fake ambient gunshots so you never know what is real or fake. You also have to extract just like tarkov, even though the devs stated it was NOT an extraction looter shooter. We've been lied to and bamboozeld.

This should be a crime.

Do it for the king's final year.

Thank you Scump for all that you have done brother. Grew up with him and Nadeshot and really made competitive CoD into what it is now.

Much love brotha.

I give it 6 months before they remove steam access and then ruin the game further. I have been playing for YEARS and have poured thousands of hours of my life into this game. From bronze 1 to champ 3, I have seen everything in this game. I was a kid when I started, now I'm a grown man and I must say, EPIC Games is a disgusting, greedy hive of trash. Not only did Psyonix let us down on the sellout but 12 months later the game has been completely shipped into the pits.

1. *they removed quick start* - literally why the hell would you remove the only decent feature?

2. *they changed 10% of the UI and left the other 90% the same.* - its like Taco bell when they got a new logo but kept the weird 1990's interior. Makes literally no sense and is clunky, slow and ugly. The colors are super contrasting and don't blend together at all.

3. *Free to play* - well there goes the millions of people who paid for the game. especially on Nintendo Switch where they forced people to pay $35 for a 4 year old game.

4. *Removal of Solo Standard* - looks like whenever you can't fix something you just throw it away like a toddler. Nice going getting rid of a mode the every single competitive game has. Not everyone wants to face timmy who is getting carried by his GC friend in plat 2. That's a giant messup.

5. *Hope you like Smurf Accounts* - RL had a giant boosting problem before this update and when Sept. 23rd comes that is about to be the absolutely worst thing in the world. Imagine, getting into silver 1 for the first time after weeks or months of grinding just to get pub stomped every game for a week straight because of "paid boosting services". This not only effects new players, but the people who have grinded for years will get god stomped back into c1 or c3 because SuPeR cHaMpIoN Johhny pooped down your throat and his diamond scrub "What a Saves!" you.

6. *Removal of Crates and Keys* - whereas gambling is a serious issue, crates and keys are some people's only way of getting a cool item without the secondary market charging $300 USD for a stupid wheel. Blueprints doesn't help because after 6 months of BP's, YOU STILL CANNOT LOOK AT ALL THE ITEMS IN THE SERIES. Again, why would you remove something so remedial but so vital? Blueprints are a horrible compromise because now its pure chance you get one of a thousand item color and edition possibilities. This is now the norm, but its a horrible way to go about it. CSGO is available in China and they didn't have to destroy their game to cater to the market.

7. *Tencent owns 40% of EPIC Games and they own Psyonix* - When you sellout for the big bucks, you put yourself in the hands of the buyer, which is exactly what EPIC Games and minority shareholder Tencent wanted. They have now fully catered to the Chinese extremely censored market and have removed anything at all that can be slightly offensive including crates/keys. They even created an entirely separate edition for the Chinese market. So why the hell did you go and destroy the global edition? This makes no sense other than laziness or pressure from shareholders.Overall, I can probably find more things to nitpick about the game, its creators and it parent company. But I will end it here.

Rocket League will always have a place in my heart and the gaming community but I feel as though no one will ever appreciate its formal glory. Getting Rising star, opening a Black Market Decal from a crate, getting the crazy save with the boys at 2am... those are things I will never forget. I can forgive all of this garbage for the core gameplay but with F2P and the pressure from an overbearing EPIC Games, I will never forgive Psyonix. RIP Rocket League (the experience) 2016-2020
