They take MMO raid boss combat and boil it down to its purest essence. They nail the experience and spice it up with rogue-like elements and a great sound track. It plays well solo, but is a ton of fun with a group. The simple control scheme makes it easy to pick up and play a run or two with friends whenever you want. It also offers a solid challenge.

Do you like the idea of League of Legends, but know that game is a pit of endless suffering? eSports Godfather captures the feel of League, combines it with management simulation with a fantastic game that can scratch two itches at once. Tweak teams, learn characters, make builds, and train your crew. Plus it has a match simulation card game that gets the ebb and flow of League. The card based match game is surprisingly fun.

This is a Chinese game developer that genuinely wants to make a great game, I think partially because the game they wanted to play didn't exist.

A 3D version of Synthetik, which itself was a truly excellent game. It retains the excellent reload system, the satisfying guns, and the fantastic audio. If you never played the first game, the shooting is immensely satisfying and the pace is perfect.

As of this review, it doesn't quite have the variety of content from the first Synthetik. Remember though, this is early access. It does have the perks of multiplayer and the new 3D graphics. Plus this game just keeps getting better. Development is a little slow due to a tiny dev team, but it is also steady. The game tends to get an update every 2-4 months. that offer notable improvements.

It is a good buy at $20, but if you are on the fence wish list it and definitely pick it up on sale. At a glance the game doesn't look anything special, but once you actually play it you will be hooked.

An excellent roguelike shooter, you should stop reading and download the demo right now. You'll buy the game.

The guns feel great with a wide variety of styles, the maps create fantastic combat areas you can maneuver around in, the soundtrack is killer, and the bosses are creative and each of them feels unique. The shooter gameplay is up there with Doom 2016 and your skill as a player always feels like it is at the forefront. The levels have a branching system with secrets allowing you to make choices multiple times in each run. Plus the choices start pretty early so runs continue to feel fresh. The speed bonuses, the side rooms, and the extermination bonuses manage to make both speed runner and completionist play styles feel rewarding while subtly pushing you to improve so you can achieve both.

The only downside I can think of is that co-op caps at 2 players. It was designed for 2, so it plays very tight in co-op. However, if a crew of 3-4 come together you'll have to play something else that night.

It is worth the full price of $25.

Raft is tricky to review. The initial loop of gather, expand, and explore is excellent. The first half of the game is a ton of fun and one of the best survival games out there. Then it turns into a terrible game.
Problem is that the developers seemingly forgot they were making a survival game halfway through and tried to become a point and click puzzle game with combat. The islands start getting to big, the puzzles are boring, and the game starts to become tedious. You'll end up getting new technology too late for it to be worth using.
As you play it also become apparent that the game has some severe flaws in the tech tree that detract from it. You never really get past needing to farm large amounts of seaweed and metal. It really feels like there is an early plastic tier, an early game plastic tier, and this end game tier that isn't worth using.
By the end of this game you'll feel it went on for 8 hours too long. It really could have used more time in early access. There should have been less focus on adding low quality story islands and more focus on the core of the game.

Quite simply, this is the best game in the Left 4 Dead genre on the market as of the time of this review.

The variety of objectives and procedurally generated missions give it immense replayability. With Left 4 Dead and Vermintide you hit a point where everyone has the missions memorized and rushes through them. In this game you always are balancing speed with awareness. You have to keep your eyes open for minerals, pits, and other dangers.

Class balance is fantastic, no class is necessary, but they all contribute. You want one of each on your team.

Developer support is fantastic, with clear communications and consistent updates.

If you enjoy co-op gameplay this game is what you are looking for.

This is a classic game that had a profound impact on the design of modern shooters. If you are a fan of Bioshock you owe it to yourself to play this game. It has aged, you'll have to rebind the controls to something more sensible, but in the end Bioshock tried to rekindle this game and fell short.

You experience the story of a ship gone haywire, trying to figure out what happened and trying to survive. The horror atmosphere is executed perfectly. The story is told well and and you'll immediately see where Bioshock tried to copy this game.

The graphics have not aged well so do yourself a favor and download an HD mod to improve textures. This games is up there with Deus Ex and Half-Life for games that every PC gamer should play.

A solid stealth game. The game follows the philosophy of giving you a simple toolset and letting you use that toolset to approach a problem. While you unlock abilities, your character isn't really going to massively change over time. You are going to be using the same techniques throughout most of the game. Much of the gameplay comes from deciding how to approach the challenges presented.

Art style complements the gameplay by clearly communicating everything in a visually pleasing manner. They game plays with shadows and light quite well.

This may not sound like a lot, but the game handles itself well. Strong core gameplay counts for a lot here. The game is also just about the right length and price. Much longer and it would have gotten repetitive and worn on. About 6-8 hours plus and extra 2 if you collect scrolls, fair for a $20 price tag.

Now the story isn't much. If you are the kind of gamer who needs a good story to enjoy a game, I would recommend skipping this one. The story is there, and it is passable, but isn't all that engaging. It functions more as a loose adhesive to tie the levels together in a coherant manner. You'll have guessed everything about half-way through and probably guessed it all correctly.

If you have a hankering for a stealth assassain style game, Aragami is one of your better choices. It is a very minimalist take on Tenchu.

I know exactly what you are thinking "A shoot 'em up for $50, that's ridiculous." Yes, that would be ridiculous for your average schmup. First thing you should know about Darius Burst Chronicles is that it has content, in spades. The main arcade mode is a branching path where you play three levels in a row. You can mix and match the levels in quite a few ways. It also had 10 unique bosses. Then there is Chronicle Savior mode with hundreds of levels and various challenge. You will not play everything in this game, you just won't. The original arcade machine was meant to be unlocked by everyone at the arcade.

The great thing about DB:CS is that it balances the difficulty quite well for most gamers. It doesn't go to the extreme lengths a lot of modern bullet hell schmups go to. Thus it is more approachable by your average gamer. However, it can still offer a healthy challenge.

The game also has a rich scoring system for you to rack up a multiplier and tactically kill your enemies with your beam for more points. You get the most points by scoring the deathblow on a boss with a counterbeam. So there is depth there if you want it.

If you like Shoot 'em ups, this game you will probably enjoy this game. Now the $50 price is steep, but I feel they can also justify it with the amount of content they give you. If you don't want to spend that much, an entirely reasonable position, this can make a great game to pick up on sale. At $20 it would be a no brainer.

Another entry in the action rogue-like genre. This game falls into the "pretty good... but" category. It has great art, unique guns, solid gunplay, good mechanics, and good soundtrack. Almost everything about this game is good. The "but" is unfortunately a pretty big "but."

The game is absurdly stingy, even after patches to improve this. So you have all these cool guns and you are going to spend a ton of time using your pistol and conserving your ammo for bosses. You get so few drops that your run can end up pretty easily screwed over. The game also moves much slower than other games in the genre such as Binding of Isaac and Nuclear Throne. The game basically demands you beat the early bosses without getting hit. At the same time the early levels, which it demands to repeat quite a bit, are kind of boring.

You will find yourself getting bored with the game and going back to Binding of Isaac or Nuclear Throne. RNG balance is vital to the action rogue-like genre and this game sorely lacks it. Combine this with slower runs and you will realize you just aren't having that much fun most of the time you play it.

On the surface the game looks and plays good, but the more you play it the more you will realize something very important is misisng.

The brutal difficulty, stingy drops, and the fun being held just out of reach is going to turn most gamers off from this game. It will have its base of hardcore fans who truly enjoy it, but unless you are a fan of the most brutal bullet hell shooters you should probably look elsewhere.
