soulless low budget attempt at trying to revive a long dead series

these games aged like spoiled milk and putting it in a new carton doesn't make it any fresher. it also doesn't help the carton is just a bunch of AI upscaling from 4 years ago.

this has to be one of the most boring, uninspired, and unambitious games i've ever played.

virtually every single thing I encountered in this game was copied over from other better games as-is without anything added to it or any original spin put on it, and the game has absolutely nothing bringing all these pieces together as one. they exist alongside each other completely disjointed and lacking any cohesion, in what has to be one of the most cookie cutter by the numbers fantasy settings i've ever experienced. the game almost makes it a point to be as typical as possible.

you'll be playing a class copied over from diablo 2, in a zone copied over from path of exile, fighting a boss copied over from torchlight 2, following a plotline copied over from grim dawn, and at no point does it switch it up or throw you a curveball.

its like someone made a frankenstein of their favorite games and then turned it into a funko pop. its like a bunch of redditors got together to make an "homage" to their favorite games and were too chicken to do something they didn't do or to try and outdo those games, and then lacked the personality to elevate what they did do.

its the same thing you've seen a dozen times except worse. props for making shrek one of the enemies, though

it's not exactly terrible, and the aesthetics are somewhat inspired, but it's just extremely boring and completely unimaginative. there is nothing here you haven't seen a hundred times, no new twist on the formula just repetition, and everything is always exactly what you'd expect it to be.

it doesn't do anything you haven't seen in a dozen co-op shooters before. its like someone scientifically distilled how to make the most boring game imaginable. it feels like a game that came out in 2014, and it also feels like a game that's still in development.

90% of the game is just holding a button and watching a meter fill up

great atmosphere and vibe, plays like absolute ♥♥♥♥ in a bucket

its everything the witness tried to pretend it wasn't, and in that sense its an actual good game, unlike the witness. it might not be the greatest game ever, but considering that the witness is one of the worst games, maybe it is. maybe it is.
