Pure, constant fun. It's even more of EDF5, which can only be a good thing in my books. I already thought that 5 had a fantastic story, but I was surprised to see that this time the story was my favourite part. It's really ambitious and I haven't seen many games handle their story like this one. Story developments are both frequent and really, really cool. It helps a lot if you know EDF5 like the back of your hand, so it might be hard to follow if you're unfamiliar with it.

There are a lot more missions this time but they're also shorter on average than before, and the missions themselves are really high quality. The new enemy types are fantastic and plentiful, so they can chuck a lot of inventive combinations your way. It also feels fairly rare to see many repeat mission elements from 5 as it doesn't go out of its way to re-introduce everything so they're still fresh even after having played 5 to death. The pacing is superb, even for a game that is this long and just about blowing up everything you see.

They somehow made every class even more fun. I mostly play fencer and the sick new katana alone is a game changer for him, and he received the least changes out of all the other classes. The new updates are such a joy to play around with. Graphics, music, etc etc it's all exactly how I want it. It's like they fine-tuned this game for me specifically.

What can I say really, day one certified hood classic. It's a masterpiece, baby. EDF!

As someone who only plays on hard difficulty and up, there were exactly zero stages where this could've remotely been useful at all due to its bad stats and the first few levels not really having big swarms that the vibro hammers (which this is a skin of) are useful for, unlike previous games. Even as a huge fan of Onechanbara, it's hard to make any actual use of this in-game.

But, it is funny.

Easily one of the best modern shmups to come out, day one instant classic that will be enjoyed for a long time. The first thing you'll notice is that the game is gorgeous with a lot of attention to detail, and what could be better than the gameplay being good enough to match that. Stages are varied with wonderful enemy patterns and the music is rad too. Each playthrough is compact, pure fun squeezed into 25 short minutes.

The game is very approachable for players of all skill levels as the difficulty is overall pretty low for the genre, with the four difficulty levels also providing some good challenge for those who want that. I reckon that most players can clear the game with no continues in two or three attempts of easy or normal. Nice quality of life features such as telegraphing attacks make it easy and fun to dodge the enemy attacks and feel cool doing it. Normally the game has 0 continues but you can buy more with the currency you earn from attempts. I never did this though, as for survival the difficulty feels right throughout the whole game. You can also buy access to retro mode, which is basically a second game that is thematically and mechanically similar, but with different enemies and stages. This makes it a great buy for a wider casual audience, there's a lot to enjoy in here at a really low price!

Where it gets more interesting is in the scoring system. The overall difficulty is low, but seemingly everything in the game feels designed around encouraging the player to delve into the game more and try to aim for high scores. Being able to compete with friends and the world via the Steam rankings also helps with this. The key to scoring is to always be in your enemies faces, as this increases a meter which multiplies your points by five. So while the game is normally fairly easy compared to other games in the genre, the way it encourages players to play dangerously makes it very easy for anyone to try riskier play styles to get more points, putting the challenge squarely in their hands. Inferno difficulty also requires you do this constantly or else the game just kills you. This is very funny.

There's a lot more I could say that has probably been covered by other reviewers. This game features a lot of extremely high quality and fun content that pushes players in fun ways and you will always find yourself craving more from it. Pick it up regardless of your familiarity with the genre.

This game gets a lot of negative reviews but I think it's largely misunderstood. More than anything, it's just a more expensive and HD PS2 simple series game. Rather than people who only like EDF 4.1 and 5, this is more in line with the first three titles and will be enjoyed by people who specifically want the janky charm of the simple series. Yes it looks like a PS3 game, the gameplay isn't too much to write home about and it's repetitive. To me that sounds like the perfect PS2-era shovelware for the modern day and I'm really happy to be able to play something like this today.

If you want a proper good mecha action game then look elsewhere. If you want something really stupid but focused on one experimental and weird mechanic then you might like this. I would much rather spend £40 on this budget title than £70 on whatever new AAA wank just came out. Budget AA games costing more is just a sad fact of the industry, where they don't get the attention that AAA or indie titles get. I hope that the reviews don't put them off of making a sequel that irons out some of its problems.

CS:GO Review
EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP AND OPEN PALM SLAM A DISC INTO THE OPTICAL DRIVE. IT'S CS GO AND RIGHT THEN AND THERE I START DOING THE MOVES ALONGSIDE WITH THE MAIN CHARACTERS, THE COUNTER TERRORISTS. I DO EVERY MOVE AND I DO EVERY MOVE HARD. MAKIN WHOOSHING SOUNDS WHEN I SLAM DOWN SOME TERRORIST BAST̈ARDS OR EVEN WHEN I MESS UP TECHNIQUE. NOT MANY CAN SAY THEY ESCAPED THE MIDDLE EAST'S MOST DANGEROUS MAP. I CAN. I SAY IT AND I SAY IT OUTLOUD EVERYDAY TO PEOPLE IN MY COLLEGE CLASS AND ALL THEY DO IS PROVE PEOPLE IN COLLEGE CLASS CAN STILL BE IMMATURE JEKRS. AND IVE LEARNED ALL THE MAP CALLOUTS AND IVE LEARNED HOW TO MAKE MYSELF AND MY APARTMENT LESS LONELY BY SHOUTING EM ALL. 2 HOURS INCLUDING WIND DOWN EVERY MORNIng
