Timeless classic!

Day of Defeat: Source is one of the finest multiplayer shooters ever crafted. Built on the Source engine, it takes the intensity of World War II battles and distills them into tight, tactical team-based combat. It’s a game where every life matters, every shot counts, and teamwork determines victory.

Gunplay & Mechanics
The weapons feel weighty and authentic, rewarding skill and positioning over mindless run-and-gun tactics. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as landing a perfect Kar98k shot or mowing down enemies tactically with the STG-44.

Teamplay & Atmosphere
Unlike modern shooters, DoD:S thrives on coordination. You need your teammates to push objectives, cover angles, and hold the line. The sound design, the maps, and the class-based system make every match feel like a desperate fight for survival.

Maps & Replayability
From the war-torn streets of Avalanche to the open fields of Donner, every map is meticulously crafted for balance and replayability. No two rounds ever feel the same, and the thrill of securing that last flag in a hard-fought battle never gets old.

Community & Mods
While the player base is smaller today, the community is dedicated, and custom servers keep the game alive with new content and unique twists. Still the classic vanilla way of playing is the best.

If you love tactical shooters, historical authenticity, and heart-pounding firefights, Day of Defeat: Source is an absolute must-play. It’s a relic of a golden era in FPS gaming—one that still holds up beautifully.

💀 Prepare to die to snipers on Avalanche.
🔥 Prepare to be pinned down by MG fire on Flash.
⚡ Prepare for one of the best FPS experiences ever.

LONG LIVE DOD:S!
PS. Valve we need DOD 2!

Great concept but still needs a lot of work and more frequent updates.

Great game but it's better half of 2024 and we still have no ultra-wide monitor support.

Approach it like it's an old school roguelike (nethack, adom ect.) but in realtime 3D and you will be fine.

It had a great start but I cannot recommend any game that comes bundled with denuvo spyware.
This decision really hurt the player base.

A missed opportunity.

Positive:
+ Art style
+ Stellar performance

Negative:
- Extremely repetitive
- No variation
- Lack of interesting mechanics
- Slow paced
- Lack of social aspects
- No skill based competitive elements
- Overly simplified gameplay

Overall score: 5/10

On paper a physics based multiplayer runner/brawler has so many possibilities for endless fun. While this game has some artistic merit to it the actual gameplay is simplified to a point that it becomes very stale after 15 minutes.

There is little to no meaningful interaction or dynamics with other players that would effect the outcome of a game. Game speed is extremely slow since there is only walking and no ability to run or gain any kind of speed or momentum.

Sadly you have seen all the game has to offer after your second or third match since there is so little variation gameplay wise. The added soccer game mode reveals that adding a new game modes does not make this game any more fun when the core mechanics are so lacking. In the end you are just walking with 59 other strangers to get trough similar levels and hope for the best. Sometimes you might have to complete team based tasks but the non-dynamic mechanics makes every level and mode feel the same without any feel of variation or accomplishment.

On one update they also removed the ability have an unique nickname forcing everyone to have a family safe random generated one. There is no chat either so the game doesn't have any kind of social aspect to it. Sure there are emotes but the gameplay is designed in such way that there is really no place or time to use them or even see them.

How could they improve this game?
Adding more dynamic gameplay. They could reference Mario 64 for some movement mechanics. Running button would make a game like this so much more dynamic and enjoyable experience and since they already have a dive mechanic the combination of these could make an awesome mechanic when done right. Ability to punch or interact with other players in some meaningful way would also benefit the competitive and fun side of things. Right now you can try to "grab" other players but it has little to no benefit or effect. In physics based games the sky is the only limit. Just an example skydiving parts in levels could be cool.

I understand that maybe they wanted this game to appeal young kids but that doesn't mean you are limited to developing boring and overly simplified game mechanics.
