This is finally the game that it should've been two years ago. Toss Subnautica and Starbound in a blender and you get the new and improved NMS.

Contrary to those games, however, NMS seems to have a level of depth and polish that I would never have thought possible after playing this for my first time in 2016. If you're one of the few who didn't refund it, reinstall it. You won't be disappointed.

The review jump for this game has been INSANE. Going from "mostly negative" overall to "mixed" in only a couple days. Compared to other early access cashgrabs and absolute sinkholes (like GTAV Online) the developers actually managed to completely re-energize their game in such an excellent way of emulating the hype that surrounded it before its initial release.

Most of the recent negative reviews I've been seeing are complaints from people who don't have the capacity to manage basic resources to survive at the start of the game... it's not difficult. Even spawning on a toxic, irradiated, or extreme weather conditions planet is easily manageable once you learn how to collect 3 (three) resources and play for 10 minutes to the point where you can sit in your ship and recharge/hide from the elements.

I've been playing straight since the Next update and I'm still stunned. It's the best revitalization of a dead game I've ever seen or played.

If you actually wanna play this, buy the base game and use a trainer to get all the extras. Overkill doesn't deserve your money.

It's dripping with personality and has one of the most unique gameplay styles I've ever experienced in an RPG. Those alone should convince you to buy it, if not for the incredible characterization and soundtrack.

Definitely worth an hour or so of your time if you're interested in esports or Dota 2.

They actually managed to make it not embarrassing or objectifying and there are good hooks that keep interest.

A very gripping game with a story like a Stephen King novel. The primary gimmick is to weaken enemies that have been afflicted with the "Dark Presence" with some kind of a light source, often in the form of a handheld flashlight. It plays as a third person shooter with some vehicle sections.

The story itself is great contemporary fiction. It plays out in narratives from Wake himself, his interactions with NPCs, and several cutscenes.

I'd say the game is worth full retail price based on the amount of story content and collectibles, but if you're just looking for a linear run through the story I'd recommend waiting until it goes on sale to purchase.

First off, this is as much of a game as you'd call something like Dear Esther a game.

The "gameplay" consists of walking along a beach and finding out of place objects like a pile of coal or a field of wheat placed on the beach. After finding each of these objects, you get a chess piece to use in the cafe that's present across from the water.

When you enter the cafe, you sit down at a chessboard and wait for someone to connect (or use their extremely awkward in-game partner connect to actually play with a friend). After waiting at least 10 minutes to connect to an actual player, the view changes to a top-down of the chessboard and you both take turns placing your own chess pieces on the board. Some spaces make your character say a line of conversation (which can be found by walking across the beach).

Icy and I played this for an hour and a half and we could not discover any sort of progression. After you collect all your chess pieces you come across some sort of pistol. This pistol can also be placed on the chessboard, but does nothing else once on it.

The story seems to be a very weak and very cliche talk of romance between artists gone sour. I'm sure the developers have an idea of what it /actually/ means and expect some users to gain a lot from the shallow symbolism, but in all honesty this would have been better as a 15 minute independant film.

I would recommend against buying this. It doesn't belong on Steam.

This game is super easy now, they auto-give you gear matched to your level and curve your exp enough that you'll almost never have to grind. You can get a solo character to max level now in a week. Give it a shot if you tried it before and wanted quality of life improvements, or if you've never played it and are looking for a unique and satisfying action combat mmo.

While being fantastically short, this game's story is absolutely engaging and brilliant.

Hopefully if you're reading this you managed to pick up the Humble Indie Bundle with this in it, if not I'd still say $10 is worth it just for the plotline alone.

It plays like an adventure game, and looks like a top-down RPG. A solid recommend for anyone who's a fan of the adventure game genre.
