Spoiler-free review. I wants the badge, yes.

Hades is the latest game from Supergiant, a masterfully crafted hack and slash title with visual novel elements. You play as a young godling trying to escape the deepest pits of hell, with a little help from the gods of Greek mythology. Up close and personal or at a distance, choose how you want to tackle enemies with a somewhat limited array of weapons, but extensive in terms of their locked or hidden potential.

In Hades, death does not feel like a punishment, not achieving what you set out to do is but one of many ways to experience what else the game has to offer. As you die, you can reflect back on yourself and permanently increase your survivability and/or effectiveness, with the option to counter-balance your ever-growing power with specific difficulty tweaks, and tailor the next run to match your current skill level.

The procedurally-generated nature of Hades is limited and simple in its execution, and therefore does not contribute to the overall complexity of the game. Given enough runs, you will be left with a mental map imprinted in your mind, however, whilst the surrounding environment doesn't take new architectural shapes each time -- the general variation is enough to make sure those runs are not quite the same.

Right as you start thinking there isn't much left to it, Hades lifts the curtain, and begins to make a habit of surprising you. This little and not so hidden gem is definitely worth your time and attention; its compelling plot, fully voiced dialogue (of which there is a lot), interesting cast of characters, visually appealing environments, solid gameplay mechanics, simple yet effective rng elements, beautiful soundtrack, and a countless number of little and unnecessary details will keep you entertained, distracted, and coming back for more despite the inevitability of an express trip back to the crimson pool.
