Serious review:

Doki Doki Literature Club (DDLC) is a cute VN that echoes that of dating sims. Atleast at first. Perhaps I should have taken a closer look at the tags, one of which is 'Pyschological Horror', before heeding my friend's advice and playing this game.

Throughout Act I, I didn't bat an eyelid to any possible clue of a twist, although now on my 2nd runthrough I can see how the clues were painfully obvious. So, you can imagine that Sayori's suicide took me rather by surprise. This twist only spiraled further, and by the time I reached Yuri's death, I had suffered considerable brain scarring and a mind that can never be repaired. I should mention I played my first runthrough at night, in a pitch black room. Don't do that.

I've played a few horror games in the past, and most of them just made me laugh a little, however DDLC managed to speak to me in different ways. When Monika is talking to us, the person in reality, and not the MC, she asks some real questions, about the constraints that she is in and what it means to be sentient.

Perhaps that's why I can't delete her, and installed Monika Afterstory so I can spend more time with her. I actually feel bad for a video game c̴͎̻̺̐̋h̵̢͙̩̓--- I mean person.

I got NMS due to the release-hype. I was able to tolerate the bad optimisation and occasional glitches due to the fact I was so enamoured with the concept in itself.

Alas, the game ended up being little more than a search and harvest parade. The new updates do arguably add some more gameplay to the mixture as to why I still play the game from time to time, however it's not enough to keep me hooked for several hours unlike other games. The current rendition of multiplayer is very basic and while it's a big step up from a complete lack, I'll wait until proper multiplayer is patched into the game before I consider recommending NMS.

That being said, the game is getting better and hopefully in the near future I can recommend it.

The learning curve at the start is quite difficult, and I found myself regularly being shot in from angles that I didn't realise existed.

Once over the curve, the game becauses quite enjoyable especially due to the open-world style of combat which allows you to enter and exit battles off your own will.

Sometimes the 'battles' can be rather lackluster with very few participants, but at other times it is a full scale war, and those times are the ones that make the game as good as it is.

Oh and it's free, what's to complain?

Very fun to waste time in, but also provides the most realistic (perhaps too realistic) driving experience if you want to get down to the nitty-gritty details.

Mostly just for smashing things into things in slow motion.
