First everyone was hyped for this game and could't wait to play it, then when it came out everyone hated it. Now that Hello Games has released a whole bunch of free patches and expansions for it, everybody likes it again. But there's more necessary for me to like a game then just getting free expansions, the game must also be fun to play! I can't even say that No Man's Sky is really fun in the first couple of hours. Sure everything is still new and there's lots of stuff to explore but it's just so boring, there's nothing to do. You start the game and first have to get through some poorly designed tutorial, where you keep dying over and over because you keep running out of O2 but can't collect any O2 because you also keep getting poisoned even though you're wearing a space suit. And you can't collect any sodium to recharge you hazmat protection because you keep dying of oxygen deprivation and poison in your face. Anyway, once you get the scanner after your 67th funeral and you can get O2 and sodium out of plants and stuff, you can leave this poisonous hellhole and never come back. However there are a few problems that lay ahead. The handling of the spaceship is f*cking atrocious and you can't land or take off manually. A game where you're flying a spaceship about 50% of the time really should't make those mistakes. It's the kiss of death for your game. The second major problem is that every time you take off in your spaceship you use the same amount of fuel (about 50% of total capacity), regardless of whether you fly to another planet or your house at the other side of the lake. This forces you to not use your spaceship and go on foot when you have to travel distances of a few kilometers. Which not only takes really long and is boring but pretty much every planet is poisonous you constantly have to recharge your hazmat protection. However, there is a way to avoid having to walk around these poisonous nightmare worlds and that is going through tunnels. Yes you have a tool to dig tunnels and you don't get poisoned while walking through them. The only downside to this is that there is absolutely nothing to find underground and it's more boring walking through the tunnels than on the surface. And even if you can live with all that boredom and terrible game design there is absolutely nothing to do or see once you leave your starting star system. Every planet looks the same and has the same features. There are no rivers, interesting land formations, mountains or forests. I recommend this game to no one. If I had to choose between playing this game or getting fired out of a cannon into the sun, I would choose the cannon. The flying mechanics would be better and I would witness the planets actually orbiting a star, which doesn't happen in No Man's Sky.
