Sorry for the late reply. Steam is not doing a great job of notifying me when people comment on this guide. I have to admit that it's not entirely up to date anymore either, there are quite a lot of changes still happening with each major update to the game.
As for your video resolution, I would use the same as your monitor. If you don't know which resolution your monitor runs at, return to the desktop, right-click in the empty space and select Display Settings. Scroll down until you see the Display resolution dropdown.
Normally if you run the game in the same resolution as your display, there should be no issues. I personally like to run the game in borderless windowed because it allows me to alt-tab more easily to other open programs, such as Discord or a web browser.
I hope this helps - if you have more questions, feel free to reach out!
Well, it has taken me all these years to return and see if I can recapture the magic. I know it never is the same when you go back to an old, beloved game. However, we shall see.
Now, as I had forgotten most things, your guide has proved invaluable. I think I will print it out.
Also, do you have any advice on what settings I said use. As in video resoloution? Is there a common, preferred ratio suited for the game?
Atm I am using 1920 one as it is the highest. However, I notice the game is not in fullscreen and the character models are all thin and stretched out. So what do you think?
Although I am not new to the game, the last time I played was way back when Mines of Moria got released. I had just reached level cap, and taken care of The Watcher and was looking forward to do some exploring of this massive dungeon of legend. Then disaster struck. Codemasters sold their shares to Trubine. I was in the UK, and through the chaos of the whole deal, I ended up losing my character, a human hunter called Turkonan.
I was gutted, as not only had all those hours been wasted, I had just forked out for a collector's copy of The Mines of Moria (which I still have, not that it is of any use now though). But on top of that I lost touch with a small community of good friends I had built up.
Being able to use 2-handed weapons is a class-specific trait, not race-specific, and even then the ability depends on which type of weapon you want to use. 2H axes are limited to beornings, captains and guardians only (guards minimum level 10 for whatever reason).
Other 2H weapons and their requirements are:
- Clubs: Beorning (lvl 1), Captain (lvl 1), Guardian (lvl 10)
- Hammers: Captain (lvl 1), Guardian (lvl 10)
- Staves: Lore-Master only
- Swords: Captain (lvl 1), Champion (lvl 10), Guardian (lvl 10)
I've started playing as a Dwarf. I was given a Great Sword as a reward. I'm at the required level, but the skill "two handed" is red and I can't equip it at all.
I did figure out the menus and find the traits area, (I have a slew of 1 handed skills and NO two handed skills at all,) but there's just no information to tell me what to do. I even found the champion trainer, but that didn't help either.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to equip two handed weapons, which being a Dwarf, you'd think is a no brainer to be two handing an ax.
- Reworked last paragraph of section 8.1
- Reworked first paragraph of section 8.4
- Removed double spaces throughout the guide
