How to play with keyboard and mouse
By ShelLuser
Death end re;Quest is a game that's best played with a controller, it was even designed for it. So what if you want to play with keyboard and mouse? Well... then you no longer need to experiment until you get it working, because that's what this guide is for! Obviously no spoilers here!

Hi gang!

I'm well aware that I might be addressing something which some (or most?) of you might consider to be a bit obvious. Well, each to their own; this guide is meant for those who are having problems to play this game without a controller.

See, this game isn't perfect and has a few quirks. One of those are the controls. No offense intended obviously but this doesn't really help:

So, uhm... what is select and return again? And why can't I scroll down?

See what I mean? You can't really customize much of this nor does it tell you what controls to use.

But instead of complaining about it I'd rather try to help out our community by sharing my experiences with you guys, hopefully it can help some of you get started!

Trust me when I say that this game is fully playable using only your mouse & keyboard!

While in the main menu

You need to click twice to select an option ('section') from the menu above. So if I want to open the library (the icon with the red exclamation mark below it) then I'd first click on the icon to select the option, then I need to click it again to actually open the section itself.

Note that you always need to return to the main overview before you can open another section.

Other than that these controls also apply:

Key or mouse button
Function
left mouse button
Activate or select option (mimics 'a' on controller)
right mouse button
Return to previous section (mimics 'b' on controller)
n
Opens episode chart (main overview only)
During combat
Be sure to also pay good attention to the on-screen hints as well!

left alt
Pauses combat
left mouse button

While in the real world

During dialogues and/or storytelling the regular controls which I mentioned above can be used, but in the main menus these controls apply:

Key or mouse button
Function
a & d
Move between selectable options (not always usable!)
left mouse button
Select an option in the menu
right mouse button
Go back to the previous menu option
Summing up...
And I think that's the full list of all the controls which you can use in this amazing game. But if you think I missed something then please don't hesitate to leave a comment below; if it checks out I'm obviously going to update the guide because that's the main goal here: sharing info which can help our community enjoy this game even more!

Thanks for reading and I hope this was helpful for some of you.

Er..I swapped A and B at the beginning of the game, so maybe for other people it's their A button to back out??

This is a great start, but it doesn't really show which keys correspond to which controller icon.

For that:

Hit escape to bring up the main menu.
Select the gear icon from the right hand edge of the top row (with your mouse).
Select the highlighted Settings block from the middle of the screen.
Go down to the Game settings row at the bottom of that System screen and select the Key Config option.
Select the Key Config option again.
Select the Keyboard option from the Target row at the top.

Now you can scroll through all of the keyboard settings.

(You can back out using any of your B button options, of course...)

(Personally, I moved R stick and L stick onto my numeric pad, and made a few other changes like that so I am not going to try build a list of these things. But someone else might want to document the default settings in a Guide or maybe even this guide?)

Thanks for the listing. I heard there's a button that can reveal wrong & correct dialogue choices during decisive (bad end) event which is R3 on a controller. Do you have any idea what could it be on keyboard/mouse?
