The Quotes

"if I wanted to play DbD, I'd just play DbD instead of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ clone"
"every system is a ripoff of DbD"
"yet another failed DbD clone"

Sound familiar? The debate goes back and forth about how the current iteration of Hide or Die is a "Dead by Daylight clone". So let's nail it down, once and for all shall we? Here's a nice comparison of the two games to finally prove once and for all that "Hide or Die is original and nothing like DbD" (actual quote, don't shoot the messenger).
Main Objectives
Hide or Die - Survivor
Dead by Daylight - Survivor
Activate and maintain uptime on 3 devices on the map in order to gain the ability to open escape hatches while avoiding the hunter.
Progressively fix 5 devices on the map in order to gain the ability to open escape doors while avoiding the killer.
Hide or Die - Hunter
Dead by Daylight - Killer
Find/kill survivors while attempting to minimize progress through access denial and damaging devices.
Find/kill survivors while attempting to minimize progress through access denial and damaging devices.
Win Conditions
Hide or Die - Survivor
Dead by Daylight - Survivor
Gather X amount of Darkness Points within a specific timer period and escape through a hatch before the time runs out.
Repair 5 devices (no time limit) and escape through a door. Once the door a door is opened, a timer begins and survivors must exit before it runs out.
Hide or Die - Hunter
Dead by Daylight - Killer
Kill all 3 survivors at the same time or prevent them from gathering X Darkness Points before the timer runs out.
Kill all 4 survivors at the same time or prevent them from escaping through an open exit before the timer runs out.
Survivor - Lives and Respawns
Hide or Die
Dead by Daylight
Start with 8 ticks of health (which averages out to 2 hits default), with some hunter attacks doing less than 4 ticks. Each death spawns the survivor in a coffin and takes away 2 "permanent" ticks of health. Survivors can save each other endlessly as long as at least 1 survivor is alive. Max health never falls below 4 ticks. When a survivor is rescued from a coffin, both the rescuer and rescuee are invisble and invincible for a small duration of time.
Start with 2 health levels. All killer attacks do 1 health level of damage not including any modifiers. Each "death" is resulted by the killer placing them on a hook and does not take away permanent health levels. Survivors can save each other endlessly while downed as long as at least 1 survivor is alive and not hooked. Each survivor can be saved from a hook twice. Third hook is instant permanent death.
Movement
Hide or Die - Survivor
Dead by Daylight - Survivor
Has 3 base movement stages - walk, sprint, and super sprint. Footsteps make more noise the faster the survivor travels. Super sprint is limited based on a stamina system. Survivors can slide while sprinting and super sprinting.
Has 2 base movement stages - walk and sprint. Footsteps make more noise the faster the survivor travels. "Super sprint" is possible with perks and is limited based on an exhaustion system.
Hide or Die - Hunter
Dead by Daylight - Killer
Has 2 base movement stages - walk and sprint. Utilize Dark Sight that gradually increases move speed (but cannot interact or see survivors while within it), and 3 RNG portals on each map.
Has 1 base move speed. Speed will gradually increase during sustained chases of a survivor and is lost upon successful hit, being struck by a pallet, or breaking a pallet. No portals on the maps.

Dead by Daylight - Survivor

Can bring 2 modifiers that affect their powers. No additonal augments spawn during the game.
Map Designs
Hide or Die
Dead by Daylight
4 maps, no variations. Devices, scaffolds, and item spawn locations are static. Item spawns themselves are RNG.
14 main maps, 8 of which have 2+ variation of floor layouts. Devices, pallets, and item chests are RNG placed. Item spawns themselves are RNG.
Map Mechanics (Hunting/Surviving)
Hide or Die - Survivor
Dead by Daylight - Survivor
Slide under scaffolds to avoid the killer, utilize coffins, trash bins, etc. to hide in, and can hide in the environment.
Vault through windows and designated low walls to avoid the killer, utilize cabinets to hide in, drop pallets on killers to stun them/block movement/slide across, and hide in the environment.
Hide or Die - Hunter
Dead by Daylight - Killer
Can use Dark Sight and personal abilities to track survivor locations. Cannot slide under scaffold by default. No default notifications for survivor activities.
Receive visual notifications on failed device checks, fast vaulting over/through obstacles, and fast enter/exit of cabinets. Sprinting survivors leave behind scratch marks to follow.
So is Hod a DbD clone?
Look, it's 100% subjective based your own viewpoint. That's the truth of it, so stop being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thinking you're right and everyone is wrong, applying to both sides of the coin. There is no pinpoint checklist anywhere that 100% defines a game as a "clone".

That said, however, looking at the comparisons (which is obviously not all inclusive) it's easy to see that the current iteration is... HEAVILY influenced... by DbD/Last Year/Evolve/etc.

The one thing that everyone can't deny (or at least legitimately deny) is one simple truth whether the white knights choose to acknowledge it or the devs will ever admit it themselves. The devs caved, strayed VERY far from the original vision presented in the Kickstarter, and instead tried to keep themselves alive by making another "X v 1" asymm game in hopes of drawing interest from the other games.

And at the time of this writing, with a whooping 24-hour peak of 88 (60 online) two weeks after the 2nd launch, does it really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ matter at this point if it's a "clone"? If you like the game, great. Spread the word, get more people to play, and stop caring about this whole "clone" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because the cold, hard truth is that there is no originality at this point in gaming. So just enjoy the version you choose to play in a genre.

Wow Infector. Lemme guess - less than 10 hours total gametime? This entire debate was moot 4 months ago when the game died again, so you're VERY late to the party.

Its not a clone at all. Its just another Assymetrical Horror game. INSPIRED By Dead by Daylight/Last Year/F13/ECT:steamsalty:
