Steps
If you don't want to grind to unlock items (or just hate the first boss), you can edit the save file.

  1. Close the game
  2. Find the savefile: C:\Users\Bucket\AppData\LocalLow\Secret Location\BlastersOfTheUniverse\BOTU_DATA.txt
  3. Make a backup of the savefile (it includes your high scores, settings, etc)
  4. Edit the savefile (see below)
  5. Run the game
Editing the savefile
C:\Users\Bucket\AppData\LocalLow\Secret Location\BlastersOfTheUniverse\BOTU_DATA.txt
Find the section called "unlockedIds": and replace everything in the brackets with the following:
"StraightA_Barrel", "Pistol_Frame", "AmmoA_Magazine", "LaserSight_Modifier", "ImpactA_Projectile", "Energy_Shield", "Barrens", "Core", "Facility", "Passage", "AmmoB_Magazine", "AmmoC_Magazine", "AmmoD_Magazine", "AmmoE_Magazine", "AmmoRefill_Modifier", "Arc_Modifier", "Beam_Projectile", "BigBoy_Frame", "Blast_Shield", "Bounce_Modifier", "DamageOverTime_Modifier", "Deflektor_Shield", "EnergyB_Magazine", "EnergyC_Magazine", "EnergyD_Magazine", "EnergyE_Magazine", "EnergyLarge_Shield", "ExplosiveA_Projectile", "ExplosiveB_Projectile", "Floating_Shield", "Ground_Shield", "HandCannon_Frame", "Hitscan_Projectile", "ImpactB_Projectile", "Overcharge_Modifier", "Pulse_Shield", "RadUnitVive", "Rifle_Frame", "ScatterA_Barrel", "ScatterB_Barrel", "ScatterC_Barrel", "ScatterD_Barrel", "ScatterE_Barrel", "SMG_Frame", "StraightB_Barrel", "StraightC_Barrel", "StraightD_Barrel", "StraightE_Barrel", "Stun_Modifier"
Troubleshooting
If the game says something like Please ensure 2 controllers are plugged in, you messed up the save file. Replace it with your backed up save file and the game will work.

Make sure that:
  • You didn't change the order of the unlockedIds
  • You kept the start and end brackets of unlockedIds
  • You didn't change any other part of the text
